Lower Ratings for WBZ Newsradio 1030

I noticed that WBZ has slumped a bit in the ratings lately. Although I don't think it's time to panic, I think they will need to look at a few things.

1. Was this just a summer blip on the radar screen? (Tradiitionally, pop stations do better in the summer. And if the Red Sox are doing well, like they were, the station that carries them will do well too.) Or is something else happening?

2. What will happen to mornings with Gary LaPierre's departure? Should you look at local hard news talent like Rod Fritz, Anthony Silva, or Diane Stern. Should you try to make it more conversational, like Jordan Rich. Or should you look outside the market, with talent like former WOR newsman, Ed Walsh, out of work.

3. Is it too repetitive? Should middays incorporate longer-form newscasts with more interviews. Perhaps a single host from 10-Noon and 1-3 with more conversational newscasts. Or should it stay the same?

4. Was it a mistake to extend news to 8:00 p.m.?

Lots of consider.

Dave

er, this is New England TV board, but since you're talking WBZ, it was mentioned in Herald today that WBZ-TV sister station WSBK/38 did well with 'BZ-produced primary night coverage, and some reporters/bloggers, etc.,
showed up on Ch 38 and also 'BZ radio that night

Ed Walsh is joining WCBS-880 in New York for nights starting in October.

Could the lack of synergy between WBZ 1030 and "CBS 4" be part of the issue?
