LPB Meter Lamps

Anyone know the type of meter lamps used in LPB Signature III consoles? The bulb says 26V 1W but that isn't enough info for locating a source.

Twenty-SIX? volts? A quick check through Newark Electronics page after page of bulbs turns up no 26v spec bulbs.
24s and lots of 28s. You'll just have to match base type and go with one of those.
There seems to be an led replacement for just about every incandescant mini bulb type.

The plot thickens...while the bulb says 26V 1W (leading a person to think it's a 26V lamp), a voltage check at the lamp terminals shows 37 volts. If they are indeed 26V bulbs, it's no wonder they are burned out. I called LPB and someone said "Hello". I asked if this was LPB and he said it was. Whoever answered the phone (someone who knows zero about consoles from my assessment) took down word for word details of what I wanted. He said someone would call me back. We shall see. This lamp is like a "fuse" lamp, but with pointed ends. 15/16" long & almost 1/4" diameter. I spent some quality time with the Newark catalog as Tom suggested, but there's nothing in there that meets the physical specs, much less with a 37V rating. Hopefully LPB has some stock...assuming that really was LPB.

Ibetcha they're 28 volt bulbs, and they l;oad the supply down to 28 volts. I'd try a 28V 'fuse' bulb in the thing. If it does the flashbulb thing, itwas still cheeeeper from NEwark that LBPB.

A search on Ebay found a gem...do a search for "Festoon Lamps". A seller named whsh94a will build an LED replacement in any of 4 colors for the LPB lamps for $6.95 each & shipping is $1.50 for any quantity. Judging from the "glowing" feedback he gets, my troubles are on the way to being over...

Just curious if you got a call back, Bob.

I have/had some business with LPB but never could get in touch with them. Last I heard they were out of business. Just wondering if life support was turned back on.

Fred - it looks like LPB has bitten the dust even though their web site is still up. They don't answer their phones or emails. I've been trying to get some more of their leaky coax to finish a project I started with a small quantity of it and now it looks like I'll have to find an alternate vendor. I was going to pick up an older LPB board but I guess I'll never get support from them on that now.

I seem to remember years ago soldering up a couple 387 bulbs to the lamp socket in an LPB.

The "leaky coax" we used many moons ago on an LPB30 in a stadium was a simple adaptor that swapped the center & shield of the 600' of RG8.

The problem I have with that is the campus I need to cover is about 4 times that distance and I need to be able to control the radiation at all points of the cable run. I can neither leave the school district I'm doing this for open to any sort of liability nor do I want to open myself to any problems should they get a violation for exceeding Part 15's radiation limits. My tests with flipping the conductors on an RG8 run will give me several areas of the campus that will easily radiate off the grounds, and no, I really don't want to get into divided runs and power dividers only due to the fact the school has a rather limited budget for this in the first place.

If Andrew can't supply it, take some 1/2 inch copper Heliax and run it past a grinder so you knock off the top of the serrations on one side. It ought to work fine. You can regulate the leakage by how deep you grind, thus controlling how much shield you remove. If you're going to put it out in the weather, you'd need to figure some waty to seal it so moisture wouldn't get in it. Indoors, this shouldn't be a oncern.

Great tip, LittleJohn. My runs are all indoor so I don't have to worry about the elements. I'm having one of our vendors check with Andrew and Times Wire to see if they have a product that matches the LPB stuff already installed (it's a little bigger than standard RG/8). I feel pretty confident either of these two vendors should be able to supply something comparable.

I'm glad I didn't buy the FM transmitter from LPB, as I know I'll never get support on anything of theirs anymore.

FWIW, I got caught in a build without all the coax I needed. Those fine folks at Radio Shack came through with some of their CB coax which was 20% shield. :)

Shame on LPB going under. Is Ron Braverman at Radio Systems still doing transmitters for Carrier Current, or did they get out of that business too? If not, who is?

I was interested in getting a 30B upgraded to 100 watts so I could cover a park for our annual Christmas tree festival and 4th of July fireworks. I might have to break out my tube manuals and figure out how to build an amp with a 6146B. :D

Radio systems is still around and they have Carrier Current AM gear still. A little pricey when compared to the LPB stuff, but you can't compare it to a company that's out of business.

I'll have to pick up a small quantity of the Rat Shack CB cable and give it a test before I buy a half-mile of it. Hopefully it will fit the bill.
