This translator is likely intended to rebroadcast the 102.1 LPFMs. However, there is a rub in the plans...Translators can only rebroadcast one licensee. Since this is a time share with 4 parties (even though three are sharing a common transmitter site) the translator will have to choose one and then go off the air when that station's time is up for the day, apply for a waiver to rebroadcast 4 different stations (since there are four different licensees), sign on and take their chances with the FCC, translate a different station altogether, or not go on the air at all. Knowing this translator has to pick up the signal "off the air" of a primary station, it will be interesting to see how this is done. Anyone know if the FCC has granted a waiver for a translator to rebroadcast multiple licensees? The only time I know of this hapenning is during E-Skip or Tropo openings.gabigley1 said:The Booster station on 98.3 FM is being build and I'm told by the engineer working on project that it will be finished by the FCC's March 26 deal line for construction.
This is technically illegal. Has the FCC granted a waiver to allow this? Also, what is up with the application being filed in the name of the former owner of the translator? The FCC granted the transfer application back in January. xmusicmatt asked the same question.gabigley1 said:Here is an update on the 98.3 FM translator. As far as I know, the translator will rebroadcast all three of the Columbus LPFM stations. As you can see from the emails below, the stations are going to be received off-air. 98.3 FM is now testing.
Addendum: The ownership change has not been "consumated", meaning the FCC has not been notified of the completion, so the application for license is in the old owners's name. The FCC may allow this application for license to go forward without the waiver, due to the nature of the timeshare of the frequency. It will be interesting to see if this sets any precident for other time shares.audio4tv said:This is technically illegal. Has the FCC granted a waiver to allow this?
