LPFM Rollcall!!!

Since my last post on the ratings went ignored, lets talk about the LPFM's in the state since the FCC is actually making some headway on advancing the rulemaking on this class of radio. I know in north alabama there is a station in Hamilton, Jasper and Moulton....any thoughts on these LP stations? Hamilton is running a religious format while Jasper and Moulton are thinking a little outside the box. Moulton is running a TERRIFIC southern radio format while Jasper is running a block rock format. I had the chance to listen to Moulton's station while visiting my Uncle last July and they were really pumping out some excellent tunes. I have only checked Jasper's station while passing through and the brief time they were streaming. I was amazed that they had a live staff all day and played "non-traditional" oldies tunes, stuff that never gets played anymore.

Could it be that some LPFM's are operating as Full Power stations, airing commercials that call for action [which is against FCC rules]?

or could it be a bunch of people who enjoy radio and volunteer their time to see it succeed? LPFM's aren't full power stations and they can't air "commercials". They have to do underwriting. Plus, I'm talking about programming here. Have you listened to the way some are programmed?

Which, by the way, there are 2 LP stations in the country that really stick out. They get a lot of press...RadioX in New York? and The Blizzard in Florida. Online at www.radiox.fm and www.theblizzard.us

Both are great stations to listen to....

Southern radio format? Too cool.

WTUS-LP in Tuscaloosa is on the air, barking for the chamber of commerce.

It's one of those "shared time" deals with WTCC-LP (Chinese Ministry?) and WUAC-LP (Crucifest Ministries). I don't know how far the others have gotten in getting on air. Crucifest, by the way, sounds like a real fun festival. :p

Is WESZ-LP on in Abbeville? Radio-locator shows it as "Variety" formatted. So has WJWC-LP in Gallion.

What I am curious about is WXMT-LP, licensed to Pelham, right outside of Birmingham. On 105.5 MHz. ???
It's listed as being owned by Oak Mountain Community Broadcasting; the transmitter site was going to be near Pelham high school, up on a hill with an excellent view of Alabaster and Hoover. I used to live close to this site.

Now that WENN is on 105.5, I wonder what will happen to this one. The ever-so-up-to-date FCC database still shows it as having a construction permit.

Here in Mississippi, a few are on around Jackson: WLEZ-LP "All Lesbian All The Time" - I'm kidding. :D It's a nice little standards/oldies/nostalgia whatever station with local announcers and at least one community talk show for the Belhaven (?) area. Nice stuff.

Canton has one. WWCV-LP is registered to the city convention/visitors bureau. The transmitter site is downtown Canton, on a tower over the studios of a little AM station. The FM is running oldies, with the RDS telling people to tune to the AM station (WMGO 1370) for city info!!

WKIU-LP in Tupelo has a jazz format, but I haven't heard this one personally, yet.

The lady who is the "president" of the board that owns WWCV-LP is the wife of the guy who owns the AM station.

WLEZ-LP is owned by Edward St. Pe and the folks at the National Weather Studios or whatever he calls it. I forget the name...

There seem to be alot of Abbeville's in the south!

There is also WQXD-LP 97.9 in Athens, running Gospel, and WVMB-LP 107.9 in Madison running religious
