LPFM WINDOW !!!!!!!!!!

From Peter Doyle, There Will be an LPFM window in 2011 (the last one).
There are about 830 LPFMs in the US and between 20 to 25% of them may be off the air.

Got a link?

so i google LPFM window, and returns "filing window"

do you mean a window as normaly used inradio terminology,eg the aM window between 3870 and 3890, CW window between 14000 and 14050, or do you mean some kind of filing opportunity? we know nobody wants to bother with that, nor do pirates waht to broacast where people would have to turn their ipods japanese or not hear it in their car at all..

where will the window start, 64 or 76 mhz? presumaby it will end at 87.5 to avoid QRMing channel 6

its really a tossup whether ipod type devices and chinese shortwaves start at 64 or 76 usually the chip in them goes to 64 byt theyre configured for 76 since nobody broadcasts below that anymore (afaik eastern europe did till about the 70s)

good to hear there will be a LPFM window though. im sick of trying to hear touch FM with 106.3 from providence blaring away at it

touch 76?

Since there is no public notice,,,,,,,,,,,,,,can you call him back and have him post something "informally" here?

Filing Window. WHen you can apply for an LPFM.

Yeeeeah. Pics or it didn't happen.

And a filing window would be worse than useless at the moment as an esteemed colleague pointed out to me: Congress still hasn't acted on the law that will free up the third-adjacent protections for LPFM. As long as those are in place, we won't see much - if any - real progress on LPFM reaching areas where it's "needed" most.

This could be an interesting discussion. What areas do need LPFM service the most?

Same thing in Seattle,

ask 88.5, 90.1, and countless others how they managed to 'fit' in

every 12.5 khz between 64 and 88 MHz provides 1920 channels at very good voice quality. divide that in 2 for suitable music fidelity

FM BCB is a massive waste of spectrum, even before 3rd-adjacent rules and IBOC incumbent-spectrum-grabs

Let's add one word to that: "There is nowhere within 30 miles of Boston where you could fit in a LPFM" LEGALLY.

This will be the last LPFM window (I think he said in June ) the FCC must give a 90 notice.
However that said the NAB if going to fight to stop it.

Ugh. The NAB. Like the past LPFM windows and stations have hurt ANY of their member station's bottom lines. The only thing that hurts the big boys is themselves with much of the same stale programming. The problem isn't LPFMs...

>>there is nowhere within 30 miles of Boston where you could fit in a LPFM

How did the 103.7 in Salem and the 101.5 in Rockport among others get in there? Legally.

W268FX Rockport
Effective Radiated Power 38 Watts

W279BQ Salem
Effective Radiated Power 27 Watts

Those are translators, LPFM's need spacing.
