I noticed every LP or translator that has popped up in the last few years are nulled Northwest toward the PA burbs and are fiercely directed Southeast bombarding the Garden State. Is this because they are hogging and stepping on all the long time Lehigh valley signals, great con job do nothing FCC.

What the original poster doesn't seem to understand is the FCC approves the engineering and issues the licenses. The FCC has clear rules on protected coverage areas and such. If it doesn't meet the minimum it is not approved. There is no con job or a do nothing FCC. You simply don't get how radio works from that end. There was a time I didn't as well.
Plainly put, a distant station can be heard if the frequency is not too crowded. In such an instance the distant signal is heard in distant areas because the less crowded frequency does not have another station the proper distance on the same frequency. When the frequency fills up with properly spaced signals, that distant signal cannot be heard. I used to be able to hear a 100,000 watt FM 110 miles away quite clearly but after a few years as more FM stations signed on, I could not hear the station. That 100,000 watt station could acre less because a listener 100-110 miles away is not buying from their advertisers. They could care less that I could hear them.
At least with the translators and LPFMs there is more diversity on the radio dial even if their signals are tiny compared to full power stations.

W241CH must be at their 250w (???), power increase. I was deep (35m) into South Jersey today and they were just as strong as all the Philly signals and stronger than 103.9, 107.9, 88.5 and 92.5, all the other Philly LP's and translators were non existent, including strong 100.7 and 102.5. How can this be, they are on some low, run down apartment building on city line avenue with a small rod antenna, but sound like they are coming from one of those 1000' sticks in the farm. Unless that is not their actual location and power, funny how all these new move in's take over frequencies and block heritage signals. Would think the CAT or the Touch would complain.
where do you get your info from?
its nto a small rod antenna, and its directional... and directional in the general direction you were headed. the engineers name and email address is on the fcc application.. hes a generally nice guy and usually willing to explain things.. why not email him instead of whining on here? HE also would not build something out of spec!
Why do these translators and lps "block" these heritage frequencies? because thats whats available here... and these translators and lps wouldnt be granted if the fcc saw there was impermissable (spelling?) overlap.
The “UHF looking” antenna is likely a yagi for the translator. Sometimes a pair of yagis is installed, one vertical and one horizontal. Yagi antennae look like TV antennae.
Yes, two UHF looking antennas on the roof, facing opposite directions, but what I cannot comprehend is how can a signal a few hundred feet with 250w (they still may be a 99), using a plain no bay antenna a few feet above the building get out like one of the big boys across the expressway, using high towers with heavy bays and more wattage, can anyone explain this.
Youre missing what youre being told... the yagis are directional and the signal is pointed in the direction youre headed... i cant tell what kind of antenna the cp says theyre using.. but it isnt a "single stick" or a no bay.
Id bet you cant see every antenna on the roof of that building.. if youre on the ground theres no way you can see the entire roof.... so why dont you, like i said.. contact the engineer of record for the translator app? Mark is a decent guy and hed address any concerns you have.

Was in Toms River today, they were very listenable, did not make it to Seaside due to RAT splatter and the Touch. This is one big signal for 250w (99w), at under 200 feet, over 50 miles away, since all the other Philly LP's/lators just about make it to Marlton on a good day, just sayin'
and im just sayin.. you gonna keep grinding an axe on here and whining or contact the engineer of record and ask him some questions?
I was in Penn Valley yesterday, actually looking at this building, a mile away or so and there was no signal, in fact, Cat Country was booming in. I do not understand how this signal can reach over 40 miles southeast into most parts of New Jersey where their format is useless, but where the bulk of their listeners are there is no signal. They must be protecting WCTO and WSOX, but what about WTTH, plus WCTO was listen able in NJ before they came on board. I would think they would of grabbed a better signal for their type programming and audience, so why this one. LAST RANT...
If they copuldve grabbed something else, they would've. Mark Humphrey is a good engineer.
As far no signal, it could've been off air, as technical glitches do happen.. ir at such close range, it can overshoot the audience.
So far you've done nothing but rant, not listen to answers and not contact the source.(the engineer/station)
