LPTV/FM

> Does Chicago have any LPTV/FM stations?
>
While this part is a TV topic, there's WOCK-CA 13, WWME-CA 23, WOCH-LP 28, WEDE-CA 34 (Arlington heights, and the signal has no primary coverage over AH), W52BR 46 Arbury Hills (signal from the AON Building), WFBT-CA 48, & W68DO 68 Palatine (signal from the Sears Tower). Those are the only LPTV stations I know of. As for radio, there are no LP radio stations in the commercial band within Chicago because of the spacing rules that require stations to include 3rd adjacents into the equation. So any station wanting to operate a station with calls ending in -LP won't be granted a license from the 92.1 - 107.9 because of all the Class B's that are in Chicago and 3 in the suburbs. I don't know about translators, but the rules are as restrictive as LP radio stations are. There are currently no translators where I live in Gary operating nearby.

Yhere is a low power FM station, WRLR, 98.3 FM, starting up in Round Lake. It is scheduled to go live in July.

After reading the thread in the Dance board, I think I see where you are going with this. You're wondering if someone could launch a LPTV/FM (audio only) station on 87.9mHz. Just like that tiny reggaeton station in the Big Apple, right?

Well at first I had NO IDEA what it even was, then I heard about what's going on in NY, so I was wondering if anybody did that here?

87.9 has been used by piraters all around the Chicago area. The 87.9 I know of that's still on the air is in East Chicago playing 80's dance music one day & mexican music the next day. I'm sure there are others on the air, but I haven't traveled around the Chicago area enough to know for sure. Who knows if the East Chicago 87.9 is interfering with 88.1 in Chicago or even in Milwaukee, plus the audio part of ch. 6 in Milwaukee
