LPTV news from Flagstaff for those interested

KSAZ has applied for a license to cover moving its East Flagstaff translator from ch 68 to ch 39. Although the calls have been K39FC for some time, it's been on ch 68. Usually the calls move over when licensed (it was K68BW). They're now broadcasting on ch. 39.

K35FH, the KPAZ translator in Flag, is back on. Their signal seemed clearer and sharper - I wonder if they did a digital upgrade of their facilities, like the much ballyhooed KPNX upgrade (sans HDTV)? They've already been approved to flash cut to digital sometime within the next 3 years.

No signals from either KDFQ-LP off Mingus Mtn or KQBN-LP off Tower Mtn. Don't know whether it's my new portable TV (Sylvania 5" B/W - it sucks, even for its low price) or the fact that these two stations with nearly useless signals just aren't on.

Actually, I've been able to receive KQBN-LP faintly from the northwest Valley. Oddly enough, they're currently simulcasting Flagstaff's KNAZ.

Then it's my weak receiver - I'd been trying to catch them from Black Canyon City. Roughly where are you at? I'd like to see if I can pull them in.

In any case, thanks for the info!

Got it. They're definitely not broadcasting from Towers Mtn.; I couldn't pick them up from Table Mesa Rd. & I-17, nor from New River Rd., either near New River or near Lake Pleasant. However, I got a strong signal from Loop 303 and Happy Valley Rd. with the antenna pointed NW. Signal was weaker at Happy Valley and Lake Pleasant Rd. It was also weaker in Surprise, so I don't think they're coming off the White Tank Mtns. either. Definitely KNAZ: KPNX programming with Flagstaff commercials. I wonder if they'll be filing a CP MOD soon - Una Vez Mas seems to do everything by the book, unlike several other LPTV licensees in the state.

New KQBN programming

KQBN has dropped their KNAZ-TV rebroadcast for Azteca America, which is what I had thought they were going to be from the start. KQBN's owners, Una Vez Mas, is the largest Azteca America affiliate. No word on KQBN's sister station, KDFQ, which was licensed on chan 47 this past weekend. I did catch something that looked like it was chan-47, but couldn't quite pull it in.
