In today's filings, Centenary College has apparently agreed to sell 91.3 KSCL to Louisiana State University @ Shreveport. This will be the second Shreveport/Bossier City signal owned by the university, who operates the regional public Red River Radio Network in, and around, the Ark-La-Tex, Alexandria, Tyler-Longview, and Lufkin-Nacogdoches TX.
But why? This will be the first instance of RRR operating a secondary signal in a market. The current O&O facilities utilize an HD2 to program full-time Classical music, and an HD3 to run NPR 24/7. Is there enough of a demand for an OTA Classical music in Shreveport/Bossier City? Or is the idea to keep public news talk available when RRR switches to music programs? Could this lead to further purchases to have a second offering to compliment KTYK, KLDN and/or KLSA?
