LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock DJ is in the Lubbock County Jail accused of scamming his listeners out of thousands of dollars.

Police say 38-year-old Charles "Chuck Dakota" Joslin told his fans on Stars 97.3 a sob story about a single mother raising a child with cancer, after his father was killed in Iraq. The money began pouring in.

Joslin's co-workers also fell for the scam. His employers at RAMAR Communications became suspicious when he couldn't keep his story straight.

Lubbock police arrested Joslin on Tuesday. His bond was set at $20,000. He was charged with two counts of theft between $1,500 and $20,000. According to the arrest warrant, the scam took place between January 11th and February 1st.

The report says that Joslin scammed $18,000 from his listeners. Those who donated would be entered into multiple drawings for various items, such as trips or Super Bowl tickets.

WOW! And I can't even get a job doing radio promotions... but this Kat is busy scamming listeners.

Wow...what a crying shame. Glad he got caught. I guess you can't even trust radio anymore when it comes to donating money to good causes.

Ha, Ha, Ha! Sorry Ronnie.... I caught the story on Yahoo.

Never the less, I am very surprised that a background check didn't highlight ANY of the past crap this Kat has been involved with. Also, would it be illegal for his past employers to mention any of this... IF and I stress IF Ramar had called any of his references? I mean, if this tool has been involved on all this past stuff... how does a past employer NOT mention or at least HINT to all this activity?

this is about as BADas it gets. i wouldn't want to be the guy "Responsible" for hiring thatloser.
the sad thing is that they went out of market to hire this piece of work when there were probably good people IN the market they could have hired, who didn't have a Police Record!! in the end,the misfortune is that 97.3's [/i] name (along with Ramar) has been tarnished by this.

What's kind of interesting is the issue that this guy was raising money etc... for some individual... yet no one above him bothered to look into it... meet the needy person etc... It seems as if this guy was free to do and say whatever. If this is "NOT DOING YOUR JOB" as a PD... I don't know what is.

I caught the initial story nearly 2 years ago when he pulled that scam in Greenville. WHY didn't they prosecute then? Can they go back and do it NOW, or was it a no-bill? Jack Finney of Greenville, the one who got scammed, is 'somebody' in that town--at least there's a Jack Finney Blvd named after him.

Like radio doesn't have enough PR problems already.

Did anyone watch Ramars FOX34 News@Nine Broadcast last night(5/27)? Well, as I understand it, the little bomb threat and stabbing that happened in Hale Center yesterday happend at this guys house in HC. Officials didn't confirm it, but Klotzman said that the address authorities were called to in Hale Center is that of Charles Joslin...I guess they would know, as Ramar is who the guy worked for. Interesting.
