KGCE 107.3 quietly changed to country. Seems to play lots of classic country with a modern hit thrown in once in awhile. I do not think it is a religious station anymore.

Even has some on air talent too.

I'm guessing the call letters are being changed to KSSL since they brand themselves as K-double S-L "K-Sell-Country"
 
I would guess the new owners have taken over from EMF. They requested KSSL as its future calls back in May according to the FCC call sign reservation system.
 
Wow! Lubbock got another country station? That's just what has been missing in the market. Now if someone would just put a Spanish language format of some sort on in Lubbock, the market would be complete.

Who is the on air talent on this station? If I was a betting man I would say Steve Richie. Anytime there is a new signal or station in Lubbock, he seems to appear there.

With KLLL having a new afternoon guy and no midday talent, KJDL having a fairly new morning show and afternoon person and now another FM country station makes 4 in the market, the fall book could be interesting, but probably not.

Yep, Lubbock is a boot-scootin', fiesta kind of town... And that's why I'm glad I no longer live there.
 
By the way, KSSL could stand for "Kissin".

I've had too much fun to remember at both fiestas and boot scoots, but I do like to have choices besides those 2. People are just scared to try a format like alternative in Lubbock. Even when KTXT was around, there was a hole in the market for that format. If done right, it could be successful. It wouldn't be the #1 station, but it could pull some decent numbers and it could make some money too if run properly.

Aside from that. Anyone have any info on the new Lubbock station? Garrett and Eggs are always on top of this stuff.
 
Jesus H. Werewolf! ANOTHER COUNTRY STATION? Seriously? That is some extreme "thinking outside the box"! I would have loved to hear the conversation regarding this idea. "Hey, you know Lubbock? Yeah... I was thinking... what Lubbock needs... I mean... REALLY needs... is a country station! The people of Lubbock and West Texas are DYING for a country station! We need to step up and take advantage of this GREAT OPPORTUNITY!"
 
From the few commercials I've heard, it's been mostly Slaton businesses advertising. Perhaps they're not really trying to hit the Lubbock market. I can get it in my car if I tune it in directly. My radio won't scan it, and even with direct tuning I get a little static depending on where I am in the city. I don't think this thing has the signal power to compete with 96.3, 99.5, or 105.3 in real terms. But, I imagine, if the owners focus on sales out in Post and Slaton they'll do alright for themselves.
 
Is their transmitter still NW of Post?

One Google link for them referenced "God's Country" - a "religious" country format. Is this what they are airing or is it real bona fide Country AND Western?

I can't receive it here in the office, but I'll try in the car on the way home...
 
God's Country was what they were before their switch to Spanish a few months ago. Now they're simply Country/Classic Country from what it sounds like.
 
According to Radio-Locator.com, KSSL is licensed to Post and their primary coverage area falls short of reaching Lubbock. Maybe they're trying something innovative like serving the people around their community of license instead of trying to be another rimshot.

My bet is that it will be on a Lubbock translator before very long.
 
The rules for commercial stations require the translator to be within your primary coverage area. You cannot use a translator to extend your range.

Those are the rules. I'm pretty sure there are situations where people are getting away with it around the country.
 
Seriously? A commercial station would mess with Uncle Charlie? A station in Beaumont was just fined $25,000 for refusing to cough up its public file. That'll blow a hole in the budget.

It looks like there's more to come with this deal. EMF's sale of the 94.1 translator was announced at the end of March, with consummation in May: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101420979&formid=345&fac_num=139462 The price was $1.00.

Supposedly EMF still owns the 99.1 translator.

They've already filed. So unless someone in market steps in or the fcc rejects they'll be on.
