Just got word that Randy Hays passed away.
He had been ill for quite some time.
He was employed as an IT Specialist and Engineer with the College of Mass Communications at Texas Tech University.
He was also CE of Record of Texas Tech's radio stations, and was a longtime CE over KLLL-FM and Wilks Broadcasting's other Lubbock radio holdings.
I know firsthand that Randy kept KTXT-FM running for the students at Texas Tech with little more than bailing wire and chewing gum before Student Media finally pulled the plug on it.
I know that he worked at several, if not all, of Lubbock's TV stations at some point, in various engineering and production capacities over the years.
His was certainly among the few names in the broadcast engineering circles here in Lubbock, and wasn't afraid to lend a helping hand to any station that needed it.
To say that I benefited from his help would be a massive understatement.
Lubbock has one less technical guru to rely on now. He'll be missed.
