Lubbock TX anchorman battles cancer

He, Karen McCay and John Robison have been there forever. That is one thing you have to admire about Channel 11 in Lubbock, their main news team isn't going anywhere. They are happy to be in Lubbock. It seems like Channel 13 and Channel 28 constantly has a changing news team, the on-air talent always looking to move to a larger market.

I still can't understand how one company can own two competing TV stations in such a small market???

I wish him speedy recovery.

Just a follow up,
KCBD has shown Abner just after the surgery which was a success. He looked pretty good for someone who just came out of a 3 hour surgery, and he continued to have a hilarious sense of humor. I don't know, but I imagine they'll have him undergo chemo-therapy as a precaution, and that may be the difficult part, lets wish him all the best.
reason.

Channel 11 does well because of strong emphasis on local coverage and taking the news seriously. 13 and 28 rely too heavily on prepared stories from AP and CNN. 28 has also had a stable anchor team, but not 13 which has too many young anchors. Nextar runs 2 or more stations in nearly all the markets they are in.
