Lucky Pierre,Jim Carr,Dave Marino,Tony Montgomery

I've now been told after WFEC Jim Carr was a board op at abc-radio-tv-NYC. now is part-time-- writing, acting, voicework, jock, audio/video production- in NYC-- [EDIT] I'd still like info about Dave Marino and Tony Montgomery if anyone has any.

[EDIT-privacy concerns]

When I was in Junior High School, the WFEC Good Guys ruled! The British Invasion…Motown…what an exciting time that was to be a teenager.

We covered some of this a couple of years ago on the Central PA board, so instead of re-inventing the wheel let me just quote my post from there…

“I discovered a couple of years ago that a Google search on "Pierre Gonneau" turned up all manner of interesting items about the former French-speaking PD of WFEC. Lucky Pierre was a legend on Buffalo radio on WBNY and several other stations that played rock 'n' roll before WKBW went Top 40. A couple of years ago he was inducted into the NY Radio Hall of Fame. How did he come to WFEC? Apparently a friend bought the place and brought him in to run it. He may have even had a piece of the action. I don't know, but he left when the station was sold to Scott and Pierre went to LA as Music Director of KGFJ, the city's reigning "Soul" station. Imagine, a French-Canadian white guy calling the musical shots on a Soul station in LA! After that he was a record producer and talent promoter. His acting consisted of some B movies and bit parts on "Married With Children," "Cannon," Mad About You" and other shows.

But here is the, what you say, thee piece de resistance. He's apparently still involved in the music business and recently did a rather wacky promotional video for a band called "Tyrants in Therapy," in which he extolls the virtues of the band while consuming copious amounts of red wine. Go to youtube.com, videos, and search for “Tyrants in Therapy, first we drink.” It's a hoot! Glad to see he's looking so good at his age. He has to be pushing 80. Must be that red wine!”

Tony Montgomery, WFEC’s music director and afternoon drive jock, became a record promoter for RCA. I don’t know where he is now. I always remember his daily sign-off: “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” Dave “Baby” Marino worked at a bunch of South Central PA stations, including WNOW and WOYK in York, and most recently at WLAN-FM in Lancaster. I’ve been told Dave moved to Florida and is out of radio.

By Jim Carr, do you mean WFEC’s morning man Buddy Carr, also known as Tom Bigby? He went on to some big stations: WCFL and WLS among them, and at last report is running WIP and WPHT in Philadelphia for CBS.

Sorry to say that a number of the Good Guys have passed away, including Tom Crane, Ron “Dick Bradley” Isroelit, Buzz A Long, Curt Whitcomb, and most recently, Fred King.

If you knew these guys, Clayton, I’ve loved to talk with you. Send me a private message, would you?

Thanks for the info. No John, Jim Carr and Buddy Carr are two different guys. Jim was a WFEC weekend/fill-in jock late 60's. see my comments about him earlier in this thread. are you sure Buddy Carr and Tom Bigby are the same guy? I heard Buddy Carr still plays oldies on Toledo radio.

John---- an internet search seems to indicate several jocks used the name Buddy Carr. Seems Tom Bigby may be the Buddy Carr of the old WFEC! AMAZING!

"Buddy Carr" was one of those radio names that lots of people were given but the Buddy Carr of WFEC and Tom Bigby are one and the same. He was the second Buddy Carr at KAAY, the 50,000 watt blowtorch out of Little Rock, before he did mornings on WFEC. There's a KAAY tribute site - sorry, don't know the address - and the same photo was on it that graced the WFEC "V.I.P Survey." There really was some talent went through that little Harrisburg station in those years.

I don't recall a Jim Carr from the late 60s but if he was mostly on weekends I may not have noticed him. After Scott took over many people came and went rather quickly. Did he use that name? There were a lot of Jims on WFEC for a while there: Jim Edwards, Jim Henry and Jim Madison, among others.

Jim Carr was a WFEC weekend/fill in jock. Great voice. thanks John for all the WFEC info. the station had some really "Good Guys"! (1960's-- 70's)

Marino worked at WEEX-Easton in the late 60's or so, maybe into the very early 70's. No idea what happened to him after that.
