Lucy 93.3 (KGSR) Signal Update

The land being developed is the reason KBPA moved into Austin. Not sure why they didn't upgrade 93.3 after all, but it can still be heard in the hill country (Burnet, Marble Falls, etc).
I'm not sure what you are meaning. The old KGSR out at the Bertram site near the Williamson and Burnet county line is much much better in most of the Hill Country than the downgraded signal from the FM 2222 site.

It’s unfortunate that they decided to still downgrade KBPA Bob FM though. The land where the old tower was is now about to be developed.
The downgrade on KBPA is more of an upgrade really. It went from a C0 100 kW at 383 meters HAAT in a suburban county about 17 miles from downtown to a C1 46 kW at 326 meters HAAT from a very central location in the antenna farm.

KGSR was going from a full C 100 kW at 587 meters HAAT 35 miles out to a C2 50 kW at 150 m about 10 miles out near 620 and 2222. Much closer, but not as central as the antenna farm in Westlake.

I think the KGSR downgrade was still probably a good idea, but it's not as clean of a win as the KBPA move and they would ,ironically, lose a lot of historical spacing protections. Cutting your HAAT by nearly 75% is going to hurt too.

The Classic Country format is a tough one. It works in a few markets. But it seems Country listeners, even older ones, still want a mix of current and recent country songs. I'd say KVET's music mix is fine. It is interesting that older pop music fans like Classic Hits stations playing nothing before the 1990s while older Country fans still seem to want current songs mixed with recent classics.

And by the way, look at KUTX at #3 in the Austin market, with Adult Album Alternative music. That's the format 93.3 once had! OK, KUTX is non-commercial, while KGSR is a commercial station. But it still is ironic that the University of Texas was able to make AAA a ratings success while KGSR could not.

It's not really that surprising. KGSR was successful for several years, and at least a couple people who were there during that time are working for KUTX now. The only surprising part was that Emmis either made little effort to keep them or got rid of them outright.

Personally, I prefer ACL Radio to KUTX, but I would be in the minority. I haven’t listened to KUTX in a long time, but the music mix was too deep and obscure to me.

Totally agree. I definitely prefer ACL for the reasons you mention.

Also, as others have said, it does seem they are back broadcasting from Bertram.
