I never said the record was "too urban", nor was that what I meant, but thats what people usually say. When people say its too urban, they usually mean its not poppy enough for CHR, the record is too street, etc. Or in other words, the song has all the makings needed to be a big hit on Urban so much, that it alienates other formats. Personally I dont think its "too urban", I am glad CHR is hopping on this record, but it still surprises me. I just wonder why a song like My Chick Bad crosses over to CHR, but then a song like LOL Smiley Face or I Need A Girl (both Trey Songz) does not cross over. Those records seem to fit with CHR just as well as 'My Chick Bad'.
However, if I ask that, im sure the response I would get from most is that its "too urban" or does not fit with Pop radio.
And KDM, I agree with you. When you hear "#1 for Hip-Hop", you dont expect a Ke$ha or Lady Gaga track to come on. Ive heard many people who are in the target audience of certain Rhythmics say "How are they number one for Hip-Hop when they play pop stuff?"
What I think is even worse are Rhythmics that hold on to their "Hip-Hop and R&B" slogan when they aren't playing any Monica, Keyshia Cole, Maxwell, Melanie Fiona, etc. Yet, their quick to hop on a Gaga, Ke$ha, Jason Derulo, Jay Sean track. Its fine if you dont want to play those songs, but dont make your audience think their in for Hip-Hop and R&B, when their really getting Hits & Hip-Hop
