Luddite hears WLS, wonders....

I'm in Rochester, New York. I was just in my car in the parking lot here at work, and heard WLS on my car radio. It was WLS and was identified so by the female announcer. Weak, of course, but clear enough to hear. It's 12 noon here - could there be such a thing as daytime atmospheric skip?

I believe it's possible, I've been known to hear stations well out of their normal coverage area from time to time. I've noticed it to0, lately. Hearing one or two stations that I normally wouldn't hear until evening. In the Wintertime it happens more, you used to be able to hear WBBM in Toronto all day in the winter until a new station at 770 came on in Buffalo

This used to happen to me occassionally around the winter solstice in December.
Years ago I received WABC & WBZ around 12 noon in the Chicago area.
In this case it may have something to do with the fact that we are near the bottom of the sunspot cycle.
