Lufkin LPFM dies

Their last STA says the following:
"FINANCING, LACK OF AVAILABLE VOLUNTEER STAFF, AND EQUIPMENT FAILURE DURING THIS COVID-19 EPIDEMIC REQUIRE TEMPORARY SHUTDOWN. THE LICENSEE IS COMMITTED TO DOING ALL NECESSARY TO ENSURE THE STATION WILL GO BACK ON THE AIR AND REMAINED LICENSED AS SOON AND AS LONG AS POSSIBLE."


However KOWJ-LP, 101.1, turned in their license today. They had a CP and also a pending assignment of license to a Pentecostal church but neither worked out.

The facility was a dud, the programming better represented elsewhere on the dial. Licensed as a Lufkin LPFM, but reached nary a listener in Lufkin. It covered Pollok, and a little stretch of US 69 around Central. It was an ill advised allocation in the first place. Sorry for the ministry that wanted to live the dream of owning its own radio station, but it just wasn't going to make it serving only Pollok.

I am working with the new group in the LPFM window,,,they have a good plan to move forward.
 
Cool but why couldn't the new group restore the now turned-in license? Making a new station seems like a lot more work than getting one back on the air.
 
It was cancelled and the old licensee walked away. Sterling was involved and I won't say anything more. The new group is prepared to file, they turned everything off, as it had been already constructed.
