Lufkin/Nacogdoches Radio

Looks like Lufkin/Nacogdoches is rated again... and it looks like Clear Channel is on top. Everybody says that consolidation is bad, but it seems like the privately owned stations (KJ103, Y100, Supermix 101.9) are much worse than the CC stations in that market... that is, unless you enjoy listening to obituaries on your radio by people who can't properly prounce the names of the deceased, and enjoy listening to 5-10 minutes of news and commentary at the top of every hour, come on... get a clue!

Yep, that's Lufkin-Nac radio alright. As much as I admit, the CC cluster have been doing much better and I don't know what the others were trying to attract. It's nothing but confusion any way you see it. Where's the real radio that's live and local. Oh wait, they already did away with that with fewer live announcers.

Consolidation is not a bad thing when you're in Lufkin/Nacogdoches. CC controls the great radio stations in that market. KYKS has been the undisputed #1 station there for 15+ years. When I worked afternoons there ('91-"97) I was pulling a 46 Share in certain demos! That was before and after being acquired by CC. KAFX and KTBQ are both looking very good as well! Granted, there are some things about consolidation that I DO NOT like, but the resources that CC gives it's stations access to, make up for all the BS. The guys that are making those stations hum are the same guys that have been there since I was there. Danny Merrell, Sean Ericson, Dan Patrick and GM Johnny Lathrop, who coincidently was the afternoon jock on KTBQ and KJCS for several years before going into sales. The other stations in the market are run by people who couldn't find their butt with both hands (trust me I know, I worked at KJCS for a while too).
