Lunch at Cap's one mo' time!

OK... here's a thought. I'll try not to hurt myself this time.

For the next L@C (Lunch at Cap's) let's make it a Saturday so those who are gainfully employed (it's radio, I know... work with me here) and those on the MS Gulf coast can make it.

Walker said something between July 4 and Labor Day so how about this... Walker and Blair both have birthdays in August. Bob's is the 2nd, Blair's is the 15th. One is old, the other is ugly. You work it out for yourself.

I propose 12 noon on Saturday, August 11 as the next L@C. Gifts are neither requested nor required... just good ol' radio fun, lies, stories and some durn good eats.

Discuss...

Walker's older than dirt but you're uglier than dirt...you've got that Mississippi mud look going for you now. Always nice to see ya Banks. I keep getting lost finding your back 40 and it's a little difficult riding the bike on the gravel roads they call streets in Picayune.

Hey man, we're uptown rednecks now! They just repaved our road. Still have the gravel driveway into the property but the road is brand new now.

When you live in the country fresh blacktop gets very exciting!

Great idea, Don. Thanks for thinking of us. I think Blair and I will thoroughly spending our birthday get-together with radio friends old and new on Saturday, August 11, noon, at Cap's.

We're going to at least have the same bunch as last time, plus Pal Al and Weerdo are on board as well for the upcoming one. We'll work on Angus Lind, Joe Culotta, Kim Stevens, Skinny Tom Cheney, Kim Diamond, Allen Beebe, Ho-Z the engineer, Ray Fisher, WTIX "Teen Angel" Todd Bauer, and more. Who knows, maybe I can get my wacky sidekick Sgt. T-Ben Boudreaux to join us.

This could well be our last get-together as a group at Caps. So, if you're in radio, out of radio, or just love radio, circle Saturday, August 11 at noon on your calendar, and y'all come for an afternoon of lies, tales and fish stories, told all about 50 years of New Orleans radio, the people in it back then, and garish tales about recording artists in those days, from folks who were a part of it all.

Plus the *best* poboys you'll ever eat.

Bob

So come to this one or forever hold your... whatever it is you're holding.

Update: on board so far for lunch at Cap's on Saturday 8/11 at noon:

Captain Humble (naturally)
Don Banks
Blair On The Air
Bob Walker
Bob Robin
Tom Courtney
Pal Al
Weerd Wayne

I'd come if it was after 2pm, but looks like I'll miss yet another one, oh well, maybe I can be there via phone or something haha

Come anyway, duckie. Since it's a Saturday and this will probably be the last of these for at least the forseeable future I don't think anyone will be in a hurry to leave. I was the first to leave last time due to vacation scheduling and it was after 2 when I left.

Add Kim Diamond and Allen Beebe to the list.

Great lineup so far. It oughta be quite a party at Cap's at noon on 8/11:

Captain Humble (naturally)
Don Banks
Blair On The Air
Bob Walker
Bob Robin
Tom Courtney
Pal Al
Weerd Wayne
Allen Beebe
Kim Diamond

Blair, see if you can get Cherie The Oldies Sweetheart again.

Jeremy, come on back again. You and folks like you are the future of the business we worked so hard to build up...come learn about the golden years, and let it guide you and them in radio's future. Remember the saying "everything old is new again", and "there's nothing new under the sun".

And anybody else who was ever in radio, wanted to be in radio, or just enjoyed listening to radio, we will have 50 years of radio experience here for a classic roundtable chat. Come join in for an afternoon you'll remember.

This is the last one we will probably have as a group ever, so come join in for an afternoon of radio history.

Bob Walker

Maybe we can get Beebe drunk and let him rip on his days at WNBC with Imus, Stern and the rest.

You got it Bob, I'll be there! I would love to chat with you all again. Wouldn't hurt to see the Pal and Blair again, too.... Plus I was introduced to Beebe's son a few months back by some mutual friends! We all put down a few cold ones and hung out at Vinnie's on the westbank. ;D Told me about his dad and I said I've always wanted to meet Allen. I remember listening to him on B-97 back in the 80's and 90's.

I think this lunch meeting may be a bigger turn out than the last! It was a privelege last time and I thank you for the invite again!! Talk soon!

Jeremy

And don't worry 'bout diggin' up Elvis, he's already ridin' wit' me!!! lol ::) ;D

An excerpt from a note to me from CC Courtney in Majorca, Spain:

"Did you hear about a N.O. radio reunion in August over at Captain Humble's?

CC"

This thing is getting some wide recognition! :)

The man that hired me in New Orleans radio in 1977! Bob, see if he can swing a visit...that would be awesome.

So he's to blame!!

;P
