Luther Vandross(1951-2005)

Luther's history started with Bowie, from there to jingles and background as well as leads for Quincy (Stuff Like That LP), then a cover of Georgie Porgie then Hot Butterfly a.k.a. Papillon by Greg Diamond's Bionic Boogie (where Chains and Cream Always Rises To The Top came from - which Chaka covered on her Naughty LP in '81), then onto the Italian producers for Change and when his solo DEMO tape was submitted to Epic they released it AS PRODUCED. That's a talent we don't see these days.

It's a shame that his last Album was one of his biggest and he didn't get a chance to really enjoy all the success it created for him.

Bad boy's havin' a party now with Sam, Dave, Jackie and all the other greats who came before him.

I remember Energy in Chicago playing a remix of one of Luther's songs. That was the only time I heard him on a dance station.

Yeah, it was the Harris + Cox Edit of "I'd Rather". Apparently Luther had some issues with their remix being released under their Thunderpuss moniker.

I was in New York over the weekend and caught the announcement on KTU, they did a rather nice tribute to Luther and spun about a 30-minute set or so of his hits. One of the remixes I was able to catch was "Dance With My Father"... can't remember who produced the remix for that though.
