I listen to my share of sports talk, but this will make the format soooo oversaturated to the point where it is crazy! 720 will join 920 and 1460 as 24 hour sports. In addition, SPIKE 1140 features a lot of sports talk (and has gotten more sports intensive since Tony Bruno replaced Big Johnson). 1230 KLAV runs a daily show called "Sportsline" hosted by the Meatman (one of my personal favorites). If that's not enough, 1400 K-Shop has more hours of sports than shopping.

Sports does have one of the highest power indexes (high billing for low ratings) of any format. Beasley should be able to bank on the endless amount of sports books, tout services, etc that will want to buy time on that huge signal. It will be interesting to see what network, personalties, etc Beasley steals from other stations.

I also wonder if any of the existing sports stations will want to flip formats to general talk. For example, AM 1400 KSHP could pick up Michael Savage, add some other interesting local and national shows and try to make a run at KXNT.

The LV business press asked how a city with so many sports radio stations does not have a pro team? They need to understand that much of local sports talk is driven by wagering. Many of the people listening to sports radio would have little interest in supporting a local team, attending their games, discussing the team or listening to PBP.

good research job bear...with kdawn signal they can bring in sports book money jocks

Think Savage could ace (yawn) Gallagher out at KXNT?

And where do Roex and similar shows land, after being accustomed to that booming 50kW? Looks like KSHOP's dreams of brokering the balance of their day could be coming true... or BTRN will dump the news blocks on 970 to make up for their investment with snake oil hours.

Savage would fit perfectly with KDOX 1280's conservative format. Plus, 1280 already has a large amount of TRN programming.

On the other hand, KDOX's 28-watt nighttime signal will work against them in this case.

That would be the most likely place; I had almost forgot about this excuse for a station. In a perfect world, with KDWN going away, the braintrust at AIM should buy KDOX, move all the foreign language and gospel crap to 1280 and make 1230 a quasi-legitimate brokered operation, moving Laura Ingraham down the dial for 7-9am and pick up Savage for 5-8pm. The rest of KDOX's Salem wannabe lineup is a waste and, in line with my predictions here all along, will never get a 0.1 share. Even Tom Leykis' sophomoric, AM-unfriendly show gets better numbers than KDOX, considering the limited use of AM in Vegas.

Note: While the above will never happen, it would seem to make sense in terms of best return to owner.

EXCITING MIKE REAGON SHOW PICKED UP BY KXNT?

savage and his millionaire beverage king kid know vegas...I bet they don't like a move to 1280 ..but would they have a choice?..he's gotten bumped all over the dial in phx and to some extent in LA......speaking of yawn...will mike reagon be put out to pasture in the vegas area?
