LWDX - 183khz and 171khz

Right now 23:56 Eastern, longwave conditions are spectacular for southern europe and northern Africa. I had Europe1 on 183khz coming in loud and constant well above the noise threshold about 15 minutes ago. This second Im getting 171khz "Medi1" Radio Mediterranee Intl from Nador Morrocco well above the noise threshold with stringer fade-ins. Confirmed via webstream. Content is ethnic music. This is a new LW logging for me.

This is with a Sangean ATS 505 sitting on my bed.... no helper antennas.

both stations are still strong and 198khz is coming in a bit too. If its francais or arabic its going to be Algeria which would be another first. If its english its BBC4. Based on conditions, Im thinking its going to be Algeria.

I feel like a kid in a candy store

I did this once last summer, hearing the 171 from Morocco with a modest, listenable signal here in VA at evening. No 183 was heard at that time.

When I had an LW receiver & longwire, I never could catch any Euro broadcasters on LW. Now I don't have one, and my total # of stations is the same! :)

cd

ive now logged the following LW broadcast stations with a portable 8 miles west of Boston::

162 France Inter (France)
171 Medi 1 (Morocco)
183 Europe 1 (French/German border)
189 Ruv Ras 1/2 (Iceland)
198 BBC4 (Great Britain)

I have a Drake R8 and a 400' inverted V long wire and made it through another winter without hearing anything in the LW band. Lots of CW beacons but no broadcast signals.

yeah gotta love that ocean path! :p To date i've logged 35 signals below 520kHz with either my Sangean ATS-505, Tecsun PL-660 or Tecsun PL-606. This includes LW Broadcast, beacons, navtex, dgps and 600 meter experimental stations. Granted only about 8 beacons can really be classified as DX. The rest are local or regional.
