Lynchburg & Roanoke's 106.9 WLEQ, "BOB-FM"

Last summer, I stayed a couple of weeks in Forest, VA, and during that time, really got to listen to 106.9 BOB-FM.

When I got home, I looked up some of the on-air personalities, and noticed a couple of other stations in different parts of the country that have the same on-air lineup (for the most part). I didn't really realize the station was a part of Jones Radio Network, or anything like that... It did, now that I remember, sound a little different. I DID also wonder why a Lynchburg/Roanoke station would have a 1-800 number... ;D

Now it leads me to wonder, since this is the Radio-Info board, and most of us are "insiders"... Does the average listener of this station know that it is not really LOCAL?

One thing that some might ask is why those personalities are never at the local events or even talk about anything local.... Sadly, some might not realize that. I expressed my disappointment with the management at Centennial, but as always the switch to a weak signal and a satellite network was for revenue and ratings purposes. Tsk tsk tsk.

I think it's a little bit of an exageration to call WLEQ a "Roanoke-Lynchburg" station---a Bedford station would be more like it. True, they probably get into Forest fine, but 107.1 in Appomatox and "the seven hills" make reception very spotty in the city of Lynchburg. The Blue Ridge Mountains pretty much spoils the show in Roanoke.

Bedford... I knew I was forgetting a town. I heard the station well when I was in Bedford, and Lynchburg. I didn't go to Roanoke, and from a website, I saw only Lynchburg and Roanoke mentioned.
