Any updates.????????????? My 95 year old mother in the Maxon asks me almost every day when will she be back. I told her I post on a website with local cats like Clarke Ingram and "Parttimer", so she thinks I can get the real skinny. She said Lynn had lots of callers and loads of sponsors, so where is she? Nu?

I think Lynn ought to buy time, a la Ron Morris, on 660, and sell back to her advertisers. It could work for all involved. Pgh needs her on the air. Just imagine what she would be doing with the bailout, and Palin.

According to her former station, her show was the only one on their air that made money. Radio is a business, she needs a job, 660 needs revenue, the audience wants to hear her. If you disagree with her opinions, don't listen, but this is a blue city in a blue state leading to an election that has Democrat written all over it. Why do you object to having both sides of the political spectrum representated on Pgh talk radio? Do you really think 1020 or 104.7 would be threatened by three hours of Lynn on 660?

You totally misread what I'm saying. I couldn't care less about her content or views. The station had a 1-share. Maybe she had a 2.

To think that she'd somehow find an audience on one of these obscure signals just isn't very realistic. To think that it would happen on anything other than a time-buy basis at these places is even more unlikely.

If someone took a big signal like 540,620 or 1080 and surrounded her with some name syndication like Laura Ingraham, Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes (you notice I didn't throw any conservatives in there... I wouldn't listen to this station for 20 minutes but I'm just trying to make a point), maybe. That would probably do better on 970 than the sports is doing. But there just isn't an owner out there in a position to take that shot.

Mark Madden had huge numbers and we might never hear from him again (although for some other reasons besides money). Lynn's got too much of a cult following at this point to be the centerpiece of anything.

If the FCC is really serious about pushing local content after the election someone in the market will give her a chance. She'd be a known commodity at least. If you're really going to force stations to produce 75 percent of their programming locally sations are going to be in need of people in a hurry.

Laura Ingraham not a conservative????????????

What about 620?

What about it? I work there. The station is profitable and has been so for some time (which is more than I suspect can be said for 1360 recently), and that revenue is helping to build the FM station. I don't anticipate any changes at 620.

Yeah, they "serve the public trust" with quack shows. What a disgrace for such a formerly great heritage.

Sorry, but I only allow myself one retort per anonymous mofo, and you have already received your quota.

My my, aren't we sensititve. I guess the truth hurts. It's just my opinion, sir, and I am entitled to it. As you are entitled to yours. My point is only that if radio is simply a business to you, carry on with the quacks, they'll make you plenty of dough. But if you have any sort of "love of radio", like I do, I would take the station dark before I would disgrace the airwaves with such "programming". No need to retort. I'm done with this topic.

To bring this thread back on topic, I hope Lynn Cullen lands somewhere, but she had a long run on 1250, and a long run on 1360 (not to mention Channel 4, Channel 16, PCNC, etc.), and that's more than most people get. She might find herself having to buy the time in order to get her voice back on the airwaves.

I am conservative on too many issues to enjoy Cullen, but I respect her talent and my late mother swore by her.

Sorry, sometimes late at night the synapses don't all fire.....

I think 620 should go 50 and 60 oldies , but what do I know. Would WAMO AM be a good place for Lynn Cullen? Didn't they try talk before? Give CINGRAM the credit for using his real name. I don't, but then i'm not in this business.

WAMO does have Bev Smith doing a talk show at night, but anything not targeting an African-American audience would be a big departure for them.

I see no reason to hide behind an alias when posting. They're my opinions, and I stand by them. Of course, there are a few opinions I don't post because I want to be civil...notwithstanding the word "mofo" (sorry about that).

There are days when I'd like to post, in toto, my comments on Pittsburgh radio. Perhaps, one of these days, I will.

P.S. I'd love to see 620 go 50's/60's oldies (and I think it could carve its own niche there), but I have to accept the fact that, right now, it's not in the cards.

On WAMO-AM I will offer an opinion.

I realize that this is Sheridan's flagship for shows like Bev Smith and that those shows will remain on the station no matter what.

Beyond that, 860 should be doing Black Oldies (for lack of a better phrase). I don't mean Jammin' Oldies, which was color-blind. I don't mean the obscure R&B that Porky made famous back in the day, but which now is the province of record collectors. I do mean Oldies that appeal to African-Americans, including the white artists that are appropriate for such a format.

They may think they're playing Black Oldies. They're not.

This is so obvious I can't believe they aren't doing it now.

Agree 100%. The Urban AC they are programming does well on FM elsewhere. Star 94.5 in Orlando has risen from a Daytona move-in to the #1 or 2 station in that market doing similar music with Tom Joyner mornings.

But you're right, they need to be doing an upbeat format with some energy and some funk. Heck, I'd probably listen to it.

I agree on WAMO programming, although I listen to them when I am in PGH. I think they could sound more like KBLX in SF. As for 620 going "oldies", I'd listen all the time, even in Tampa if you stream. Tampa radio has the same problems as PGH. Repetitive playlists and robojocks . Formats tend to overlap badly leaving few stations with a clear identity. Tampa has Cox Radio who has perfected this to the "highest" level. Tampa has had stations like LTJ and BOB for years. If 620 ever goes music full time, please no Scott Shannon. Borrring!
