Lynn Tolliver passes away

Former Cleveland radio personality at 93.1 WZAK, 98.5 WGCL (now WNCX) Cleveland Lynn Tolliver Jr. has passed away after an extended illness. Truckin' Lynnie as he was known at WGCL, was a great guy. Tons of talent. RIP LT.

Wasn't he also at WJMO 1490 way back in the 70's?
He was not there when I was the WJMO/WCUY gofer, but I met him when I returned to Cleveland in the late 60s and visited WJMO at its new location near University Circle.

Another sad loss for the industry.

Lynn was a mailman when he started at WJMO and often came to the studio and did his show still wearing his uniform!
He was one of the first African American DJs to be hired at a major top 40 FM Cleveland station when he was hired at WGCL.
He created the powerhouse WZAK when he was operations manager there and was a major force in R&B radio nationally.

On top of that, he was one heck of good guy. Sincere condolences and peace to his family and friends. Keep on Truckin'!

Mr. Tolliver, as a teenager I believe, also was on the air at daytimer WABQ AM1540 at least in 1971 when this record I'm about to tell you about was a current hit. I, as a teen, used to listen to him on WABQ. My favorite Lynn Tolliver story was one time when he accidentally played the B-side to "Funky Nassau" by The Beginning of The End. It was "Funky Nassau, Part Two". After it ended, he came on the air and said: "Surprised you. Surprised me too". I got a laugh out of that. I, too, send condolences to his family and friends.
