M-Audio card with Breakaway

Has anyone used an M-Audio 'Audiophile 192' card with BBP?

I have one sitting here and if it is suitable I will use it, otherwise I'll move it on to a new home.

If you do the mod and have a scope to adjust the tilt it should be fine, but i would sell it and get the Marian Trace Alpha. It has straight DC output,no tilt required.

Suitable for streaming, not suitable for feeding a transmitter. Only the Marian Trace Alpha (or Marian Trace cards with more than the 1 in/out of the Alpha) will meet the overshoot requirements (why there is only 1 DC coupled sound card known to be in existence concerns me). I once had a Soundblaster (Z2S or similar number)...it worked with BBP but like every other 192K card that isn't DC coupled, it overshot badly on certain songs. If you want to play and just get a feel for what BBP sounds like, the M-Audio will serve that purpose. You just wouldn't want to use it on anything that needs to meet FCC modulation requirements.

Respectfully disagree...I did that and it did set up as the directions said it would, but playing Three Dog Night - Black And White caused about 130% modulation. Marian Trace Alpha solved that completely.

For those who are experimenting with the tilt adjustment, airing the square wave and looking at the total modulation meter on a good monitor and adjusting the tilt control for minimum modulation yields the same result as setting up a scope.

Forget about the dreaded 3 dog nite tune.i run the Trace alpha.that's why i mentioned selling the m-audio.digigram claims their cards that do 192 are straight dc output as well.

Once I trial and error'd the Patchmix Software from EMU/Creative to work with Breakway...I have been able to duplicate the mixer settings and have been reasonably happy with the inexpensive EMU 0404 soundcard...they seem to exhibit the need for just a little coefficient and tilt adjustment...but I'm quite happy, and so is our engineer...and he holds a very expensive and thorough modulation analyzer.

I just hate it when I have to publicly display my ignorance.... but here goes:

What is this "tilt adjustment" you guys are talking about? Can you point me to a link or two?

Inside Breakaway BROADCAST, there is a panel for calibration settings...to set high/lowpass filtering...PEQ, tilt, coefficient, etc. yadda yadda.

I guess the best place to start reading is HERE. Nothing to worry about though if, as stated before, a Marian Trace series card is used.

Totally agree about the Marian Trace Alpha.

I put that in a Dell Optiplex and switched the drive to an SSD. Over two years running without so much as a glitch.

Thanks for mentioning this...the Optiplex is a physically smaller PC and I'd often wondered if the Trace Alpha would fit inside the case. You just answered my question.

Depends on which Optiplex. The minitower, yes. The desktop, probably not without a riser card.

Ah hah...I'm not familiar with the Optiplex's multiple form factors. Thanks for chiming in with this info. Are Desktop and Mini-Tower the only 2 choices?

Minitower/Small Form Factor (desktop)/Very Small Form Factor.

Minitower will take regular sized cards. Small Form Factor will take only half-heights.

Ahhh... that's true. I had to keep the cover off a couple of desktops until I got them replaced. My kids wound up with a computer upgrade as a result! ::) The cards fit (horizontally), but the cabinet isn't wide enough to clear them.
