Volt Radio, LLC is the trustee for Cumulus. They "own" several radio stations besides Macon. One in Savannah and two in the Myrtle Beach area are also under Volt Radio.

To get that info I'd have to sign confidentiality agreements and I'm not that interested. Just curious to know what the scuttlebut is around town.

Most likely the standalone FM being shopped is WROK-FM (105.5), formerly WIFN (sports) and WAYS (Oldies/Classic Hits). As noted above, this is one of the stations that Cumulus placed into the Volt Trust to comply with the newer ownership caps before they could consummate the deal with Citadel last year.

For a C3 station, it's got a pretty decent signal. Runs 6100 watts from a 500ft tower on Highway 49 near Mattie Wells School in Jones County (the old WDEN site when it was at 105.3), so it's up pretty high on a hill overlooking Macon. We always got pretty good results with the signal when I programmed and did mornings on WAYS.

What kind of power did WDEN-FM run, when it was on 105.3? Was that always from the new tower, or did they only do 105.3 from the old South Street (AM) tower?
Seems like most of the "old-line" Macon FM's ran about 50 KW+ back in the 60's and 70's, IIRC.

105.3 was a class C, which means it was 100kW. I'm not sure about the AM tower, I was under the impression they always came from the tower out Shurling Dr. I see that's where the WROK signal is coming from now.

That's what I thought. Seems like WMAZ-FM and WDEN-FM, in the 60's and 70's were both 100 KW, and WPGA-FM was just a little lower, IIRC.
Then, there were a very few lower-powered ones.
The first 105.3 was on the South Street tower, and required a small addition to the "hut", to make room. Not sure what the power was at the very beginning, but I seem to remember quite a few bays on that antenna.

PGA has always been a class A FM. The only Cs that Macon had was 99.1, 105.3 and the first WPEZ.

Considering the macon listening/viewing area for radio/tv is whop-sided to the south and east, I'm surprised that Macon radio has not relocated radio closer to the Laurens county area to have the ability to increase power of most stations and not interact with the Atlanta radio stations. Lots of dead areas between Dublin and Metter down interstate 16.

That's especially true with the Macon TV's. There's a lot of good signal that's being virtually unused in places like Jackson, Barnesville, Griffin, and McDonough. As far as radio, WDEN does get some listeners in the South Metro area, as far north as the I-285 perimeter. It's not blocked out of the South Metro area like the cable companies and local Atlanta TV stations block the Macon TV's.
