Friday, September 12, 7:00 PM at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. It's called Hamp's Hop but it's quickly turning into a Macon radio reunion. The event is to celebrate the induction of Hamp Swain (King Bee) in the hall of fame. Former Macon DJ's scheduled to be there:
Alice Bailey (The Party Doll), Paul Beliveau, Aaron Bowers, Palmira Braswell (Honey Bee), Ray Brown (Satellite Papa), Kenny B, Willie Collins,
Bernice Cotton (Queen Bee), Willie Dickey (King Juan), Bill Elder, Gary Guntor, Lafayette Haines, George Jobin, Don King, Del Ward, Steve Malone, Frank Dean Martin, Mike Roberts, Robert Roberts (The Mighty Rock), George Threatt (Big George), Ron Wildman, myself and of course The King himself - Hamp Swain. Also George Patton who gave Hamp his first radio job at WBML in 1954 will be there. Mr. Patton will soon be celebrating his 90th birthday. Ben Porter should be there if he can clear his schedule. We'll have free refreshments, cash bar and the great music Hamp played from the 50's through the 70's. Our 1955-replica Shure mike will be open - the only rule is: if you use it you have to introduce the next song. As much as anything, this is a chance for all of Macon to congratulate Hamp and thank him for all he did to help our great music heritage. IF THERE'S ANY FORMER MACON RADIO PEOPLE WE'VE OVERLOOKED WHO'D LIKE TO COME, PLEASE CONTACT ME RIGHT AWAY - Ben Sandifer (478) 474-4366 or [email protected]
