Whats the Macon radio scene like?

Let be honest here. I am not looking for people that have grudges and the like. Just an honest review of the marketplace.

Thanks!

OK, let's try this.

The Macon market has almost 30 stations, with half of the market being dominated by Clear Channel and Cumulus, both of whom own 15 stations combined, while the other side is made up of "mom-and-pop" stations like WBML, with its longtime southern gospel format, WNNG out of Warner Robins, WFXM-Foxie 107, which almost always struggles to keep up with longtime urban leader WIBB-97.9, and another station geared towards Warner Robins, 103-9 The Patriot, WRPG, which was Sunny 103.9, WQSY up until the move to news/talk almost two years ago.

As for which stations usually sit at the top of the Arbitron charts, WIBB usually finds itself in a battle with country powerhouse WDEN for the #1 overall spot nearly every book. In fact, ever since Cumulus took over the operations of the former U.S. Broadcasting cluster in 2003, both Cumulus and Clear Channel have had stations finish in the top five or 10 of each Arbitron rating.

Hope this helps.

Kent,
Are you going for the Cumulus CE job?? 6 stations total and I hear, a studio move. And probably a contract guy for an assistant.
Very hot and humid in the summer....lot's of those nasty afternoon/evening thunderstorms. Little critters that swarm around your ears constantly called Knats....nothing approaching "cultural" for miles.....get the picture??!!
I'm not going for the gig, so don't think I'm trying to talk you out of it. Macon is a charming little city, and Georgia is a very nice place to call home. You can buy a very nice home for $200K and you are just 1 1/2 hours from Atlanta should you miss the "big city."
ClearChannel owns half the stations in town, Cumulus owns the other half. The infamous ex- morning guy from Atlanta's V-103 owns a vouple of FM,s and an AM.
It's a typical top 200 market!
Oh...BTW...I think Rich Wood works there(Smile)

WMGB-FM (CHR/Pop)
WIFN-FM (Sports Talk)
WLZN-FM (Urban)
WDDO-AM (Urban Gospel)

If you want some information about the Cumulus cluster or Cumulus in general, check with me. I let you know anything I can remember.
