Mad at RTN

RTN, now known as RTV retro televison is one of my favorite channels. In the past they have run all of there programming very much like it was originally seen. But a few days ago they began putting the RTV logo in the corner of the screen which is a horrible distraction. Especially when the logo is in color and the show is in black and White. I don't mind if they briefly have it on the quarter hour but ever station in town has it up all day long. Is there any end to this nonsense screen clutter? When HD first came out most local stations didn't have the proper equipment to plaster there local screen clutter over an HD broadcast. Now the locals are installing the equipment and its starting to look like old crappy analog again with all the junk on the screen. The worst of the worst are stations that blatently plaster pop-up ads in the middle of a show. Or networks that have people running or dancing at the bottom of the screen. If I want screen clutter and pop-ads, I can't get enough of those intrusions on the internet. And how long before RTV begins carving up all of there shows, and cutting the epiloge and end credits off in order to squeeze in more commercials like cable started doing years ago.

I quess if you were to ask a television executive why they do certain annoying things the answer would be "Because we can"

In other words, "The Nickelodeon Defense" -- for a time in the late-1990s, "Because We Can" was Nick's slogan for their series of promos involving kids doing strange things. Of course, I interpreted it as the various things Viacom does to make our viewing experience miserable.

RTN/RTV had an on-screen bug (in color) prior to the move of the NOC to Chattanooga. This is nothing new.

On-screen bugs and barker promos are not going away. It just took everyone a while to catch up equipment-wise.

I agree why do they need a logo on screen.

The onscreen bug wasn't added to RTN on my local station until June 12. I could be added locally but I doubt it. Our station ignores the subchannel. There is no mention of it on the air, or the website. they don't have a legal ID or any local commercials. They are just carrying the direct feed. It's almost as if they don't want you to know it exist. The screen clutter is beyond annoying. It also causes burn-in on older plasma sets if left up too long.

Incidentally, "Why? Because We Can" is the current slogan of a Philadelphia-area radio show called "Uncle Eddie's Ham Radio".
