Mad Dog and WSOX part ways

After 12 years, Mad Dog has been shown the door (the one he once slammed on his finger!) He is a great guy and deserves better. They claim it was for budget reasons. The real reason is because there are people in management over there that are candy asses who should be letting -- oh let's say-- Gary Sutton go. A non-rated WSBA morning show does NOT need four people on it.

The Dickeys need to go forth with the plan and dump the station's management team and start over with a couple of new formats.

Shame on you Todd Toerper. You have made too many mistakes these last three years. How can you sleep at night? When the time comes and you must answer to the higher power, YOU will be the one that needs an air conditioner!

This REALLY pisses me off. I haven't paid much attention to radio since leaving the business a few years ago. In the last year or so, I've found myself actually looking forward to hearing what Dog & Dave are up to. Mad Dog was the true anchor that a morning guy should be for a station. I doubt 96.1 will recover from such a loss. For the sake of my friends still there, though, I honestly pray that they do.

Wow. Maddog departing is a shocker. Didn't see that one coming. Guess if you're making above minimum wage, you're in trouble there.

But it's just another example of the bad management team in place. And it begins with Toerper.

Truly a shame.

The problem rests a little lower than Todd Toerper and a little higher. Some people just can't handle those in radio who are better at it than they are -- and they get rid of the competition. The loss of Mad Dog is huge, but he will go on to do even greater things!

Yes the one below you speak of has caused much havoc for many talented people.

Has anybody bothered to listen to this joker on the air? Bobby D has got to be one of the worst talents in all of Central PA Radio.

And this guy coaches talent?

What a freakin' loser.

Mad Dog's gone yet this guy is still there.

During my time at WSOX, Todd Toerper did a wonderful thing for me.. in that he made me so miserable and belittled me to the degree that it was actually empowering. I can't tell you how great it felt to say that I'd found another job and to move on from his tyranical management style. He's one of the most pompous and obnoxious people I've ever met - he wouldn't know talent if it slapped him across the face, hence the release of Mad Dog. I hope Todd was able to do for Dog what he did for me. Dog is meant for much bigger and better things - it's a blessing in disguise.

Yes, I agree that Dog is meant for bigger and better things. In better economic times his situation might have been a blessing in disquise. Right now....there just aren't many jobs to be found. This is sad because there are many on air professionals in the unemployment line right now. I wish Mad Dog and his family the best. This past weekend, I passed two more car dealerships where the lots were empty and the showrooms were locked. Until this industry comes back, radio will be hurting. Remember all those annoying car dealer ads we all complained about? I actually miss them.

Eventually Toerper and the "Little Mussolini" will be shown the door by the Dickey Brothers. When sales remain down, ultimately management heads role. Who will replace TT as GM? Perhaps one of the out of work former managers at one of the auto dealers in the area. I've read elsewhere where the Dickeys have looked outside the industry for Market Managers. Jack Giambalvo...Come On Down.

It has become sad. Radio USED to be fun, you could tell facts about the artist or song or even air phone calls. WSOX has become WRTC (Read The Card!) Dog was the latest talent to be shown the door and that is sad. I have known many sales people who dislike Bobby D (some are still there) and a few who dislike Todd Toerper.

Sales people disliking the PD? That's not unusual at all. Some of the best PDs over the years butted heads with sales, however....in today's climate....they better be getting along. The rules have changed.

Love the "fake" website, but the Atlanta-based decisions are "options" and the featherheads that lead their regions throw the darts at the staff lists. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Ah, this decision had very little to do with the economy. More to do with pushing another talented person out the building. Because at Cumulus/York, talent doesn't matter ultimately. Unfortunate...but very apparent.

Those in power in the Atlanta office made the decision in this one. It was another in a long line of talented people who made more $$$ and benefits that they wanted to pay. Therefore, the company showed him the door. This even goes back to the days when Susquehanna owned the stations. However, Todd Toerper should NOT be in a management position at all!

Very sad indeed. The latest word is WARM's PM Driver Chris quit and the Promotions Director exited on her own to go into business for herself. The WARM guy had only been there since the fall. Sad, but very telling. Wonder if the remaining staff have to inherit all those duties?
