On the WZUM post Clark Imgram Spoke of Mad Mike Metro. Mike was more than a Radio DJ, He was a Broadcast Engineer, Teacher with his Institude of Broadcast Arts School in DownTown Pgh.And all around good guy. Mike would And did help Many People. He Could fix or Jury Rig Anything. Prior to the 1980's the FCC required a First Class Radiotelephone Licensed Operator ,to be on duty at the Transmitter of an AM station with a power Output of 10,00 watts or more, And any Directional Pattern whatever the power output .Mike Worked at WIXZ Nighttime Transmitter, WZUM , WEEP 50kw, and other Stations, He also helped build the Transmitter site for WYEP FM in Hazelwood. One story that sticks in my mind, was in the Early 1970's their was a Fire in the Fulton Building and WEEP could not use their Studios. Mike was on Duty at the 50 kw Transmitter site. He found some reel tapes and played them, But he did not have take up reels,so the Magnetic tape was all over the floor. The CE was so happy that 1080 AM Had no dead air .He told mike I'll clean it up. I personaly Knew Mike Metrovich And miss him very much.
