Madison ratings just came out last week, and the January ratings are the first (public) ratings to include MidWest Family Broadcasting in years. It's interesting to see the full market ratings for the first time in a while.
Great ratings for WPR's News & Classical WERN, which sits atop the Madison ratings for the first time that I can remember.
Sadly, my favorite Madison station (WRIS) didn't make the ratings. Nor did co-owned WOZN (Sports, 1670 / 96.7 the Zone) or WHIT (Country/Farm 1550 / 97.7 the Farm). Three different MWFB stations all rolling snake eyes. Ouch. At least they didn't have to pay for these ratings.
I am surprised the Zone's 0.0, but hopefully the addition of the Brewers will give them a boost. WRIS' signal in Madison is so poor I'm not shocked there.
Other MWFB stations (Magic 98, WJJO and Q106) all held steady, but none placed in top five. 93 Jamz is sliding and is now the second-lowest rated FM in Madison after Rewind 92.1.
Rewind 92.1's ratings continue their downward march, sliding further below a 1 share. Doesn't look like the tweak to variety hits or the Christmas music helped. Time for another flip?
Aside from WXXM, iHeart had a pretty good month, with both WIBAs in top 5 and WZEE resisting the national slide in CHR ratings, gaining a share from December to January.
Mixed bag for Entercom. WOLX is down 2 shares, but still in 2nd, WMMM up slightly and WMHX had a nice bounce from the Christmas tunes.
Not sure what's up with WTLX (ESPN 100.5) -- they're not included in the ratings; not sure if that's because they didn't qualify for inclusion with Nielsen's new rules or if they just didn't have the listeners to make the ratings.
Also interesting that none of the out-of-market stations show up in Madison anymore (Nielsen is now including them in ratings again -- you can see some Milwaukee stations in the Chicago ratings, for example). Used to occasionally see WTMJ or WGN show up in the Madison ratings, but I guess with the ever-increasing noise floor and overall decline in radio listening, this shouldn't really be a surprise, either.
