Madonna-4 Minutes....(not impressed)

well, looks like all the haters were wrong on this one - it's a smash!
Remember a couple of years ago when some of you were crying about how American radio no longer supports her b/c it's ignoring Dance music, or b/c she's gotten too old for the format? Well, John Parker and Robbins proved you guys wrong with Cascada on the Dance front, and Madonna is proving you wrong with her latest hit. Her last album simply sucked! Sorry to all you "Sorry" and "Hung Up" fans but America just wasn't feeling it.
"4 Minutes" on the other hand peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, nearly Top 10 at CHR/Pop, Top 20 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, top 30 at Rhythmic and Hot A/C radio, and number one for 2 weeks now in the UK. It also debuted straight in at number one in Australia and Germany, rises to number one in Holland and Belgium, and is number 2 in France and Italy.

Its not all that... But since this is a DANCE board, at least talk about the remixes which turns this song upside down. The original is not Dance.

Not every song needs a remix, and besides I'm not the one who started this thread - I just happen to be a fan of this song (in its original form no less).

Who says it isnt a dance record? I bet if you asked most of the radio programmers in the country that play dance music, they would say it is. Timbaland worked on the record which of his songs in the past year have not been dance?

The remixes are good but the original is still the best

The original is dance but I did pull that version this week for the Bob Sinclar mix as it's really good.

The Bob Sinclar and Tracy Young remixes arent too bad, especially the Bob Sinclar mix as far as radio is concerned. Im still not feeling the original though, ive tried and tried to accept this song, but I just cant, Probably because it sounds like JT is saying Mcdonalds, Mcdonalds, and I also think the horns make it sound cheesy.

Wasnt a huge fan of the last album, but I did like JUMP, it should have been on the CHR charts.

I am hearing 4 minutes on all the European Dance and CHR stations, most of which play the original. The original sounds too Urban to be Dance in my opinion.

That brings up a good point and a debate that is ongoing. Just what exactly should be call "dance? Is it only 4/4 beats? If you go to any club then you'll have your answer,as it is an onslaught of 4/4 beats. That's the biggest challenge dance music has in the US (the 4/4 beats). In the US these beats do best in the clubs. I know there ae exceptions thoughtout the 90's.Madonna's resurgence on the pop charts with this non 4/4 beats dance album should be a big hint that the problem with the dance in the US in not dance itself but the 4/4 beats that constantly being served as the only dance beat that is modern and upto. Which is not the case.

For the question of "What's Dance?", it's been addressed so many times before and there is no clear cut answer. Everyone has a different feeling on that and it's probably best to let it remain that way as the discussion can get ugly fast. ;)

I agree with JP,,, Lets just let each other have there own opinion's and just live and let live. Right now I have other more important things on my mind than whether Dance has to have the 4/4 beat to be real Dance. I am still really upset, depressed, and overall shocked about the death of Joshua Messex, He really was the best buddy anyone could ask for, and we had alot of future plans for hanging out and traveling together that is never ever gonna happen now, not to mention that he was a Dance supporter, and was practically like a history book when it came to knowlege of KPWR and KKFRs days of Rhythmic Dance. Im sorry to hi jack the thread, I just need to vent a little before I break down again. We were really close online friends. :'( I really do appreciate the people who took the time to read about my feeling's, and I dont need any sympathy, just some understanding...Thanks..

It's definitely somehwhat of a shock to many of us who have gotten so used to Josh's posts.
Back to Madonna, she's back to number 4 on the new released Billboard Hot 100, and up to number 7 on the CHR/Pop chart. I'm not bothered in the least that this is way more of a Pop song then it is a Dance song - Madonna was a true Pop queen in the 80s and 90s.
