Magic 100.1

While enjoying the last days of WJRZ with their holiday mix, I am tempted to just turn off the station everytime I hear those bumpers for Magic. This one really cracked me up, their tag was "A whole new musical experience for Ocean & Monmouth County" and then a sweeper of Katy Perry, Pink, Matchbox 20. Hmm, don't we hear those songs on 92.7, 94.3, 95.1, 96.9, and 104.9? I really don't see the whole new "musical experience" if it's everywhere else on the dial.

This is what happens when you have people from Boston calling the shots for a station covering Monmouth/Ocean Counties. They don't know the market at all. Honestly, I don't know if this is going to be AC or a tweak to Hot AC, but either way, we really don't need it. Also, if you're close enough to NYC or Philly to receive some of their stations, that means even more Katy Perry / Pink / Matchbox 20 on the radio! Utterly ridiculous.

"A whole new musical experience for Ocean & Monmouth County"? That's as stupid as those "Finally!" billboards advertising Hit 106. "Finally" we have 6 stations on the dial playing Top 40 music? It's "A whole new musical experience" because this is the first time that 100.1 FM is playing acts we can hear on 10 other stations? Who are these people kidding. They really take listeners for idiots, don't they?

And this is going to be different than the NINE other Adult Contemporary stations that already serve Ocean County how??

92.7 WOBM
96.9 WFPG
98.3 WMGQ (in the extreme North)
98.7 WWZK (in the extreme South)
99.5 WJBR (in the South & West)
99.7 WBHX
102.7 WWFS (in the extreme North)
101.1 WBEB
106.7 WLTW (in the extreme North)

I also wonder if they're going to keep the traffic reports for places in North Jersey that can't even pick up 100.1??

I enthusiastically floated around several stations in North Jersey during the 70s and into the 80s, then left radio to work in another industry. When I began working in radio again on a part-time basis in the mid 90s, it was immediately clear that during my hiatus, something had happened. Something must have been added to the water at radio stations around the country that affected only owners and/or management. Something that rendered them completely gullible and submissive to the idea that they no longer were smart enough to hire Program Directors who knew the market well enough to program the stations on their own. But maybe owners and management were also convinced that if they owned a group of stations, they would realize some cost savings, too. Who knows?

Whatever the justifications, my opinion is that it was the coming of the consultant that spelled doom for radio... truly good radio as we knew it. How else could we have countless stations across the country branding themselves by firing off every sound effect in their library at the top of each hour as some over-equalized-and-compressed in-your-face voice spits the station moniker in our faces? Oh, this is what they call 'imaging?' Am I to believe, then, that the 'image' of this station I am to come away with is that they are irrelevant noise and attitude? If every station 'brands' themselves in this manner, what's the <expletive> point?

And now, on AllAccess.com, we see ads for a talent coaching service that claims to "create" personality radio. Pardon me, while I lose my lunch. "Daddy, that man is back, and he wants to sell you another bridge."

So not only do we already have radio, in effect, circling the bowl... but now there is some force manning the plunger to ensure it all goes down... and quickly.

We HAD personality radio. Unique individuals who knew how to program, entertain and inform based on the demographics in their own unique markets. Rubber-stamped radio killed this, and there needs to be a stake we can drive into the heart of this monster.

Women and children first.

Their first macic trick.........POOF.............................Let all the air personalities go!
Their second magic trick......................POOF....................... same ole format as on other radio stations in Monmouth and Ocean county
Is the magic a plastic radio station? Have already deleted 100.1 on my car radio
Who needs the same ole
I think your magic wand needs repair. theres no "MAGIC" just smoke and mirrors!

Didn't Greater Media already try this and FAIL in Philly with Now 97.5. That's with only one other AC station in the market, B101. They will fail again on the Jersey Shore with 8 other established ACs to compete against.

This kind of stupidity should be mocked on the Jersey Shore TV show.

LOL. I doubt they'd even care. Anyway I only watch that show (sometimes) because I think the girls are hot. :) *drool* It's certainly not because the show features muscular and ripped shirtless Italian guys, tho I admit sometime I look at them and wish I was muscular like them instead of an obese whale.

I still can't believe that idiot guy punched out Nicole.      You never hit a girl!!!!!!!! :'( Kudos to MTV for fading to black in the part where he punched out Nicole. And kudos again for putting up a Domestic Violence Hotline phone number at the end of the show. And mentioning to call 911 in case of violence.

Magic 100.1 went on the air at midnight with Bon Jovi's Who Says You Can't Go Home. So far none of the 70's and 80's Gold that you hear on WMGQ

This is a PLJ clone. Lets see how long this style will last if you have FPG and SoJo leaning on this format.

what a dead seg into a song no welcome to the new magic 100.1 yeah they really put thought into this one

like sam said sports in 2 books

Yet another heritage station down the toilet for something that failed on 97.5 and could get the same stuff on 95.1, 95.5, 96.9, 99.7, and 104.9.

Guess T.J. Lubinsky is gone from his 'hometown' Jersey shore station? He lost his Sirius timeslot in the Sirius-xm merger. Wonder if he'll resurface, maybe on one of the Atlantic City oldies stations?

Never did I think I would see a change is moronic as G Rock becoming Hit 106, but this might actually top it. Absolutely nothing unique about this station at all. We already have WOBM, WWZY/WBHX, WBEB, and WFPG loud and clear. Why do we need another station playing all the same songs that we can hear in a million other places? This is a recipe for disaster, and I don't believe that Greater Media is serious about making this station a success. I hope the rumors are true that GM is looking to sell their NJ stations - they ruined both WRAT and WJRZ, so I won't miss them at all if they move out of the market.

Be careful what you wish for......Many small stations in Pennsylvania & New England keep getting sold to EMF......If they get their hands on the GM stations we will have religious K-Love and/or Air-One stations all over the state.
