So far Renda's AC Magic 104.1 KMGL in Oklahoma City is still a very good sounding AC station throughout the summer till now. Although their ratings went down hard over the summer. For the Spring 2011 ratings, it was standing at 6th place with a 4.9 market share. Over the summer, it went down to 7th place with a 4.1. Hmm... what's going on? I thought their playlist update back in May which made the station sounds a lot better than last year should bring the station ratings up a little bit, but the station ratings actually went down.
Well KMGL did got a little aggressive over the summer adding Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name", Journey's "Any Way You Want It", and Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" although they have been playing Black Eyed Peas' "Let's Get It Started" since last year.
I think KMGL is a little bit behind on keeping up with new songs though. I think they need to jump on new songs more quickly. I thought they were really behind when they barely started playing Pink's "Raise Your Glass" last month while other stations had already started playing "Perfect" several months ago, but thank god they already started playing Pink's "Perfect" last week. Normally KMGL isn't Pink friendly, but at least they started playing Pink's "Raise Your Glass" last month and "Perfect" last week. They also started playing Adele's "Someone Like You" a few weeks ago. I think they're still behind, they still got The Script's "For The First Time" and OneRepublic's "Good Life" which are good AC songs to jump on. They already started playing Andy Grammer's "Keep Your Head Up" and Lady Antebellum's "Just A Kiss" in their 1-6AM part hours, I hope they pull them into their regular hours and I also hope they pull them into their regular hours soon, they are good AC songs.
Besides that, I think KMGL is really good playing 70s, 80s, and some 90s. they play stuffs like Elton John's "Crocodile Rock", Rod Stewart's "Maggie May", The Eagles' "Take It To The Limit", Berlin's "Take My Breath Away", Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over", Heart's "These Dreams". Breathe's "Hands To Heaven", Celine Dion's "That's The Way It Is", Nicolette Larson's "Lotta Love" The Human League's "Human", Bruce Hornsby & The Range's "Mandolin Rain", The Cars' "Drive", Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes", Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", Huey Lewis & The News' "Stuck With You", Alias' "More Than Words Can Say", and Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)".
They should jump on new songs more quickly while keeping the 70s, 80s, & 90s they're playing. What do you guys think? And do you guys know why the ratings dropped so dramatically?
