Magic 105.1 Middays is 8 hours long?

i am out of the market so please forgive my ignorance. The WMGC web site lists the midday jock as being on the air from 10am to 6pm? Really? 8 hours? How long has Mitzi Miles been doing this?

Well I figured part of the shift was vt. Is the entire shift voice tracked? How much actual live jock presence do they have on the air during the week?

Thanks for the details. The Greater Media web site describes WMGC as the home of "Detroit’s greatest on-air talent". It does mentions Chris and Mitzi, too. I just hoped there would be others. With so many good jocks out of work it's a shame. And I know this is not only a Detroit or Greater Media situation. It's pervasive industry wide.

Hey you're right! On the Greater Media web site under EMPLOYMENT they list several opportunities (which have probably been filled by now) for MAGIC 105.1. However, under MARKETS they list WMGC as Soft Rock 105.1 and they've got a new logo. When did the change take place? And why drop the MAGIC moniker? Perhaps they discovered the brand name has lost its meaning with listeners. Oh, well. What do I know? Good luck to anyone who still has a FT gig there.

The last time they referred to themselves as "Magic" 105.1 was right before the holiday season last year. When they started playing 24/7 Christmas music, they dropped the "Magic" moniker and called themselves "Christmas 105.1".

My guess is that Greater Media figured the "Magic" name was associated with a station that was not doing terribly well in the ratings. Also maybe because a lot of people associated the name with Jim Harper, and he has since retired.

Seems like they were phasing it out even before then, as a lot of the sweepers around that time just said "105.1". At the time I thought that maybe they were going to try to compete directly with Fresh rather than going softer, or that they were going to flip formats altogether.

Whoever is responsible at Greater Media to update the company website needs to review the site. I spent about 45 seconds on it and found the incorrect information.
