I suppose "Magic" is not a good name for a Hot AC station. Even some mainstream AC stations that have MG in their call letters have given up "Magic."

I can remember in the 1980s how many stations, most owned by Greater Media, had Soft AC/Soft Rock formats and called themselves "Magic."

94.7 WMJC Detroit
102.9 WMGK Philadelphia
104.1 WIOF Hartford (they didn't give up the call sign that spelled out 104)
98.3 WMGQ New Brunswick NJ (still using Magic to this day)
93.1 WMGX Portland ME
106.7 KMGK Portland OR

During spot breaks, they even sometimes played a wind chime sound effect to represent the idea of "magic."

I Google some of the stations you listed and the playlist seem more like AC formats than Hot AC.

Back to Hits 105-3, the name change fits the playlist much better compared to the "Magic" name. Although, the playlist seems rather tight, but I believe that's due to the rebranding of the station.
New airstaff has been added.

105.3 has been Magic since at least the mid-80’s. After KWED moved its FM into San Antonio and sold it, it was KTXB for a year or less before becoming KSMG as ”Magic 105.” It started as an AC and became an oldies station around 1988, when the oldies format was starting to take off on FM. It went to a 70’s/80’s gold station around the summer of 1993 and ran that format for about two years before becoming 70’s, 80’s and 90’s AC. It slowly evolved to what it is today.

Despite being a relatively new move-in to the market, it has a good amount of history behind it. It was part of the ill-fated deal for Rusk to sell its properties outside of Midland-Odessa to Jacor. It fended off multiple other oldies stations at one point, including a time when the market had three oldies stations on FM, and still remained #1 in its target demo. It was also the first station in the market to execute an LMA when it took over the operations of KISS 930/99.5. Despite being the first LMA, I believe Clear Channel had the first official FM duopoly when it bought KQXT from Westinghouse, though Rusk eventually bought the two stations. I believe it, too, was the first station in the market to pay a personality a $1 million salary when it hired Sonny Melendrez away from KTFM.
