Magic 106.3 WBOP

Here is another example of poor radio programming . The station has been on the air as "Magic" for less than a week . Already have heard "You Make Lovin Fun"-Fleetwood Mac about 6 times at nearly the same time everyday . If your gonna play the "Greatest Hits Of All Time " then mix up the playlist alittle .P-L-E-A-S-E.

Isn't that the impossible dream? Programming diversity on the commercial airwaves? Listening to it certainly isn't any fun....<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah, very typical. God forbid you have more than 300 (or less) total songs in rotation. After all, there's so little to choose from when you're only picking hits from the last 30 or 40 years.

Soon you'll hear "we're the station that doesn't offend anyone...the whole family can listen...blah blah <gag>

Anyone heard the new "SAM-FM 105.5" in Louisa/Orange? The letters S-A-M stands for Simply About Music. Not a bad concept at all. I haven't listened to them much so far because I am out of range, but when I have I've heard some good songs that are a little out of the ordinary, yet very recognizable. What little I've heard, sounds like a pretty good variety of music, but I didn't hear any jocks.

WBOP plays more than 300. What the original poster forgot to mention is that while they play certain songs to death - they're playing at least one or two categories on their clocks that have way TOO much crap in them...so while Fleetwood Mac is playing every 6 hours or so - you are hearing crap like "who shot liberty valence" or whatever its called - and disco crap into 80's crap into early 60's crap...think The Police King of Pain (another they play too often) into the Dave Clark 5 - yuck!

On the 105.5 SAM front...the SAM format comes from WESTWOOD ONE - its satellite fed.

The 300 songs comment was merely a figure of speech to make a point. Even though in reality there's more than that, it still sounds like 300 or less because as you said a selected few songs get played to death. Much like how oldies stations will play "Surf City" and "Red Rubber Ball" every day until you could bang your head against the wall.

It figures that the SAM format is just another WW satellite feed. I was in range this weekend and got to listen to 105.5 a little bit more. I still say it's not a bad concept, however, what's the point of having a radio station with no jocks? You might as well put some CDs in a changer and hit "repeat". At least then you can pick just the songs you want to hear and hear no commercials. I can understand the appeal of less talk and fewer commercials, but I'll never understand radio with no personality at all.
