Magic 1160 - KMGS heard in Camden, AR

It was interesting to listen to the allnew Magic 1160 AM - KMGS here in Camden, Arkansas tonight. I looked at radio-locator and I figure that they forgot to change from their daytime power since they were coming through like a freight train. And they are still running at this level as of 8:12 p.m., after the sunset period. Anyone know anything?

Two possibilities here; first, you might be correct in assuming they were still on their day pattern. The other night I heard them on the night pattern at about the same time you mentioned, but it's possible the August [automated] pattern change times were inadvertently entered for tonight. That would have kept them on day power until 8:15 CDT, while the September switch to the night pattern is supposed to happen at 7:30. Then again you may have actually been hearing them on their nighttime pattern, which has one of its lesser lobes pointed somewhat in your direction. I'd be inclined to think, however, that it's the first possibility in this case, whether it was a manual or automatic failure to switch to the nighttime array.

1160 is also blowing smoke here in Jackson, MS. It fades in and out but at times it sounds like a local. Its blowing away 1080AM and even blows away WBAP when the conditions get right. Pretty smokin tunes too! Its been coming in for the last several nights.

I have listened to them several mornings in a row in El Dorado. They boom in around 6:15 or so....

The 1K site is very strong going SE but not this strong. Magic's booming in like a local here in Kilgore TX (3:09 am, yep I'm a night owl), with just a little shortwave-style propagation.

But 1160's IBOC crap is really wrecking havok on 1170 KFAQ next door. It doesnt seem to fase a weak mexican pop/rock station at 1140 or KWKH 1130.

BTW is Magic's still commerical free? I havent heard a spot break yet there or on 1190 yet.

I continued checking it out throughout the night until about 7 a.m. this morning, and it continued to boom on thru. Obviously, they must be "stuck" on the day pattern at night. Somebody's not watching what their doing and I bet that, if they hadn't already, KSL in Salt Lake City will be screaming bloody murder to the FCC if they continue to do this. But, it was some nice music! It reminded me of the old KLIF-1190 with the little jingle they keep playing.

I usually drive through a noticeable night pattern null for Magic on my way to work early in the morning but haven't noticed it the last couple of mornings. Sounds like they're not switching over to the Lewisville site.
