Magic 590... one year later and an echo

It's been a year since Magic moved to the AM and it sounds like crap. Not the music, not the imaging but the sound of the station. WGY and WGDJ sound nice and clear, loud too but Magic is muffled and flat, even for AM radio.

And now there's an echo... a terrible, terrible echo. I've been listening to the stream to avoid the echo. What the heck are they doing with that thing?

Did crazy Jay Scott get near the processor?

A year later, it is what it is. Something to keep the transmitter going. There are limited options for the station at this point. Stay with this format for now. In 5 years, they can finally shut it off and save on the National Grid bill.

We ARE talking about the oldies station running Cool Bobby B, correct?. The stream sounds fine, and checking the ratings section it shows 3.1, good enough for number 9, topping most of Pamal's other stations in town, and several FM's. Many other AM's and station owners would salivate at getting to that position with a music format.

I didn't know that my AM radios in the house and in the car had expiration dates on them for listening to MOR, Oldies and Talk. People are listening to this station and it's doing fine. I do agree that the echo and pitching up of the music have to go. Remember that wide area coverage AM s serve an audience and that if the format is desirable, people will seek them out. WENT is a small market full service A/C and people support it. The music Magic plays is a blend of MOR and Oldies, an interesting hybrid. The only thing they need to do is keep working on expanding the playlist, dropping the reverb/echo and playing the music at the right speed. Better imaging meaning better jingles would be nice, but they aren't going to do it.

I can't say I've noticed the reverb, but HAVE noticed many times esp when they had 100.9 that some songs would play way too fast and others wouldn't. That drove me up the wall! And to this day I still can't tolerate that crappy sappy jingle package
