"Magic 95.5"

One fewer sports station in the market.
Must have happened sometime last night (maybe at 12 this morning?), but 95.5 The Game is now Magic 95.5 with an Urban AC format. Heard it almost by accident driving back into Columbus from Dayton just after midnight.
Can't say I am totally surprised The Game didn't last. Have more thoughts but I won't clog a thread-opening post with them.

So if Magic is moving to 95.5, and I heard Gospel is replacing classic country on 107.1, what's happening with the current Magic 106.3? Are they pulling a "rewind" and going to have two signals?

Based on the last played songs on the WHOK website it appears to have happened at some point after midnight.

Not sure what they plan on doing with 106.3... guess there will be a simlucast of 95.5 and 106.3 with the Urban AC format for a bit.

107.1 WHOK-FM will flip to Gospel “Joy 107.1” on Monday, November 16 at 5:00pm.

It will be interesting to see what Radio One does with 106.3. Do they put Gospel back on it (106.3's signal has some overlap with 107.1 in places to the south and west though).

Gospel on 106.3 and 107.1 makes no sense. Keeping Magic on 106.3 and 95.5 would since London and Lancaster are their stick locations... that would cover a lot of ground. Hopefully 106.3 goes Smooth Jazz... that would make at least one person (me) very happy.

That would be an interesting choice - Or could R1 try a Jack like format on 106.3? I know they can't brand as Jack FM in town but they could still program a local "Classic Hits" station... they seemed to have did well with 98.9... Branding on magic's website about the launch of 107.1 seem to indicate joy's going to be alone at 107.1 and on air it seems they already have forgot that magic is still on 106.3 (Liners are pimpin' 95.5 hard and the website banner has been updated to "magic 95.5" with no mention of 106.3) so I don't see Magic staying on 106.3 long term.

95.5 did air the Cleveland Browns game yesterday. Long term it would fit better on QFM 96.

I'm guessing since Wilks still owns the stations until the sale clears Wilks has to honor their contract - once the sale finishes and the LMA turns to ownership I am guessing Radio One won't be obligated to carry any sports.

I did hear that Sunday. Wasn't surprised, really.
Now as for the Cavaliers, I guess we'll see what happens there.
I know most of this discussion has been about the new format, but since I will never listen to that I will share a few thoughts on the old one. It always seemed half-you know to me. From the day they went on the air, it never once seemed like they were serious about competing with the Fan. A 1-hour show at noon that repeated later in the day and a two-hour live afternoon show was not going to compete with 97.1. They tried too much to be the Cleveland sports station in town, and that wasn't going to work, either.
They had a chance to air NFL games from Westwood One when 97.1 dropped them for the 2014 season and aired all of three ... both conference championship games and the Super Bowl. Sorry, generic national talk is not better than live games. 1460 and 97.1 could stand to remember that, too.
This reminds me of when 103.9/920 aired the news radio format. If you're not going to do it right, don't do it at all.

I don't think their goal was ever really to be competition to 97.1/1460. It seems like it's only real purpose was to clear CBS Sports Radio in Columbus.

I would be surprised to see Saga pick up the Browns on QFM. I don't think they carry any sports programming and haven't for some time, if ever. I thought the on air section in the dispatch had the Browns listed on 98.9. I didn't remember to check and see if that was the case. Maybe, Iheart makes a play for them again. On another note, you can now listen to the radio feed via the Cleveland Browns app as well. I believe it's the feed from Akron.
