Magic 98.9 all-Christmas

WSPA has started its all-Christmas format today, haven't heard signs of it being weekend-only. 102.5 is still 70s this weekend.

A little bit early....wonder if 'Lite Rock' will be back Monday.

No, but they're calling themselves "your holiday station", "christmas music station", even heard "the upstate's home for the holidays." No mention of it being a weekend event only. Went to 2 stores that were playing 98.9 in the background and could hardly stand it. Maybe they think this will boost their revenue.
 
I think that WMYI has beaten them so many times that WSPA wasn't going to take a chance this year. I doubt that Tesh is offering a Christmas feed this early for this to be permanent. for me Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving is fine but the day after Halloween is ridiculous.
 
It's a preview weekend. They'll be back to regular format Monday. Surprised WMYI let them get the jump, though. We can all agree it's goofy to play Christmas music on November 1, but weekends aren't big on an AC station anyway, and it generates word-of-mouth that can help you capture the image and win the holiday season, which IS big.
 
With that logic WSPA should play Christmas music every weekend to own the image. It certainly doesn't say much for the AC format if you focus on one holiday for two months.
 
Rest assured, until Thanksgiving we will have Christmas weekends. They are probably trying to maintain their lead against WMYI like they had last book.
 
They'll both probably be in full time before Thanksgiving. The 17th is a good bet...but it could be as soon as the 10th or as late as the 24th.

The logic is to look stupid on a couple of weekends to make sure you win December. It has worked every year since 2001. Christmas music on AC will stop working when women stop liking Christmas. Let me know when that happens.
 
I wonder if the Subway on Exit 1 off I-26 from the NC border changed their station. As when I ate lunch there the other day coming back home they play Magic 98.9 on the radio there.
 
I have noticed in years past that WSPA has tried to begin their Christmas music full time before Thanksgiving and I am sure that they are trying to get the jump over WMYI and the other CC stations that start palying Christmas music on the weekends before Thanksgiving.

No, WMYI won December 2006. WROQ was 2nd.
 
Magic is jingling the bells again. 'MYI is all-70s. Surprised WMYI hasn't jumped on the 'preview' bandwagon yet as usual, especially with Magic already doing it. Maybe WMYI thinks they will benefit by getting the listeners that aren't ready for all-Christmas yet.
 
i vote for 70s. women may love christmas but it was almost 80 today which is odd for this area. women and christmas music and the weather
 
Yeah, the Christmas music is too early. I don't particularly care for the 70s weekends, so I'm not listening to WMYI either, but I guess Entercom has the edge this year. Heard 98.9 a lot in the stores with it. I predict they will go all-Christmas first this year.
 
i think that the christmas edge has become a game between magic and wmyi. since wmyi has beaten magic in previous years magic was not going to take a chance and now wmyi is delaying christmas music. interesting strategy. i know many that liked both stations but bought sat radio because of this battle.
