Magic 98.9 picks up Murphy, Sam, and Jodi

Posted this yesterday, but it must have not gone through. Apparently Entercom has finally given up on the morning drive slot at 98.9 and stuck syndication in. Greg McKinney is doing the afternoon sports talk program on 1330/950 now.

Murphy, Sam, and Jodi used to be heard on Lite 96.7 (defunct) in Columbia and Y-102.5 in Charleston. WBBQ in Augusta and WYKZ in Beaufort/Savannah still carry it. Based out of Louisiana I think.

I would guess that Entercom made this decision prior to moving Greg McKinney (as much as he may like doing an afternoon talkshow, I would expect that going to AM is still considered a demotion). I don't know. Magic seems to be on the rocks now. Not sure how popular this syndicated show is but only time will tell if it helps. Zac and Marnie are certainly not a dream team over on MY, but they play a good amount of music and since Magic doesn't seem to have done much to spruce up their music catalog, it may not help. Of course, Hot AC to AC is not a direct competition any longer. That doesn't mean that the AC catalog couldn't be mixed up to give it a little spark.

Greg McKinney is a good Announcer, but more suited for maybe Mid-days. I can understand the importance of that change, but I, at this point of station repair, would not have went with the quick & cheap Syndi-pak. There is some extremely "Top Shelf" Air Talent outta work...."John Boy" Crenshaw, just to name one. He would do quite well, in the Mornings!

Scanning through the Magic playlist on Tunegenie, it looks like they've gotten a little softer in their playlist as far as tempo goes and are playing more music from the 70s since adding MS&J. Simply Red, Phil Collins, Spandau Ballet, Andy Gibb, Steve Perry, Bryan Adams, etc. It's actually not bad for an AC.
