Apparently Columbus is NOT the only market that Radio One has decided to do something "non urban"...

They are launching a "news" station in the Houston market blowing up their Gospel "Praise" in that market...

Here is an update on the new R1 news station in Houston, Texas.

http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2011/11/news-92-fm-krois-launch-delayed-plus.html

The sign on date has been pushed back a few days, from next Monday morning to next Thursdays morning. Maybe an indication they don't quite know what they are getting themselves into.

Also, Noticed this was just posted on the Houston board:

Does anyone know why the launch was pushed back ??

An insider told me that "real-time" rehearsals started this week, and a few extra days were needed to polish things. Also appears the station is still finalizing staffing.

I am curious what the station will run overnights 10p-5a and on weekends; have not seen any info on that.

They are stunting that new station here as of this morning: http://praisehouston.com/ Click the listen now link at the top right.

They said(Stunting audio) they are a week late signing the station on the air with the new NEWS format because of "technical glitches" they had.

Not worth starting a new thread for this comment:

Most of the Top-50 market Jack-FM's have calls that end in JK, e.g., WCJK in Nashville.  But Columbus' Jack had to settle for WJKR, presumably because all the options ending in JK were already taken.  Well, I see that Knoxville's Jack WRJK -- which had been simulcasting still-Jacking WQJK --  has just been sold and flipped to religious.  If it's not too late try to grab 'em, R1.

I'm in Knoxville this week; WRJK (the ignored part of a 2 station simulcast with WQJK on 95.7) has been sold. Hasn't flipped yet but will be religious simulcasting with powerhouse 106.9 The Light in Black Mountain NC
