Magic Act

For its first trick, Magic made Lite disappear. Since light was pretty dim, it wasn't much of a trick. But now, it sounds like they're sawing my radio in half. Of course, so do most stations. I need a metal radio. Oooh. maybe they made Delilah disappear, too. Or even better, sawed her in half along with my radio.

Next, will they try to pull a rabbit (or a frog) out of a hat?

It's magic without a magician. Maybe they'll hire one.

Like it? better start recording the tracks. Don't like it? No worries, they'll have another format ready to crash and burn after this one.

I am just wondering how long before anyone (if anyone dares) takes on the Lite format again? Has to be a stick out there someplace that could (or should) be better used? Like I said, no real A/C in Altoona and now none in State College. Looks like a gaping hole to me.

Jack was "happening" years ago. Magic in '07 it isn't. Wasn't it just replaced in NYC with a retread oldies format? What is the point of a WOWY/BUS/3WZ mix? Lot's of Michael Jackson ???

does anyone know if they are planning on doing traffic reports during the PSU home football games? I hope they start playing lots of Eiffel 65...if they did both of these, I promise to stop listening to WPSU or at least cut back to 18 hours a day.

I'm all for a whole block of "Magic" songs. How bout "abracadabra" from Steve Miller and "magic" from Pilot and hmmm...may be a short block. I am sure there are a few more, but I am drawing a blank.

This MAGIC Moment, Magic - Olivia Newton-John, Magic Man - Heart, Do You Believe In Magic, Magic - Cars, You Can Do Magic - America, Strange Magic - ELO, Magic Carpet Ride,Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,Puff The Magic Dragon, Black Magic Woman,Magic Bus, magical mystery tour... :-* is that a WAND in your pants, or are you just happy to be listening to the new MAGIC 99.5?

I'd like to hear em play em all in a row just once. I did listen on and off a good part of the day yesterday. Is it just me, or are there certain songs that have been forgotten for a reason? I sort of get a laugh when people say "we play the songs everyone else forgot about". I am not a huge lover of consultants (although I tried my hand at consulting myself and well...we see how that panned out) but I do know they they all do their "auditorium testing" and there are always the safe lists, etc etc. Could it be that everyone else forgot about them cause they were not worth remembering. I mean, do we really want to hear how badly Jimmy Cliff butchered "I can see Clearly Now"? and Even Michael Jackson had some songs best left lying in the box in the back of the broom closet. Sometimes too much variety is not a good thing.
Then there is the fact that Jack is dying fast in most major markets. Was just killed off in New York. Anyone care to make predicitons as to how long the "magic" will last before it fizzles. And predictions on what's next? Perhaps they can resurrect Lite and say "the lite's back on in Happy Valley". Just please...please no Delilah!

Wait what Michael Jackson song should be kept in the back of the broom closet? He is the king of pop! Enough said not one bad MJ song ??? Yep I have lost my mind

I can't get past the whole "no jocks" thing. Typical corporate radio move. People are dispensible. It's like a bunch of suits waiting for the concept to take off--no human beings. Just an automated station with no character, no connection to the community, no personality, just music and commercials. Advertisers will just line up to hand us money and we don't have to share it with any one. If this idea doesn't just die a slow, painful death, then it's all our fault these ideas aren't shot down the second they're suggested. Ecclectic format without any jocks. Horrible idea.

My verdict is "I guess I gotta go to XM or Sirius to find grownup music that doesn't try to saw my radio in half." Bummer. I hate paying for stuff that should be free. But there isn't anything I can keep on during dinner around here -- not even the goofball music channels that Combat-cast puts on its digital TV service. Lite could be a bit grating, but at least it didn't intrude (except for Delilah and the guy they had on in the mornings.) And I was getting used to that midday guy who had some cute things to say and, at the end, began to sound a little less like Alvin the Chipmunk with a cold.

Forever's unintended victims of The Majic Act would seem to be The Bus & WOWY. Though it's always billed itself as Classic Rock, The Bus has always been more of a Classic Hits station. WOWY moved out of the 50s-60s Oldies into the more recent past a few years ago. The 70s-80s-90s pop-rock oldies focus puts 99.5 right between WOWY & WBUS.

Seems like they're attacking two of their own. Anybody think they understand what they're doing to themselves?

In a way Forever is only 1/2 attacking itself! WOWY and WBHV may somehow be linked but is Forever really seeing a profit of the revenue? I doubt it. I mean really look at the track record for Forever...Hot 107.9 Great numbers before they bought it, no revenue, couldn't make any money...DISMANTLED...Hot 103 Great Numbers again, better billing that 107.9, still not good enough...DISMANTLED...So keeping with the track record...B94.5 has some numbers, but they are hurting revenue wise...so if Forever really had a finger or whole hand in that pie, that station would be long gone. Plus I happen to know several people in the building and Forever doesn't play as big as a role as everybody thinks.

The fact of the matter is that Magic is going to tank, several people I have talked to have found new stations to listen to at work, can only take so many disco songs, MJ songs and Jackson Browne I guess. The BUS will be fine as they have 1 thing going for them that 3 other stations have going for them as well...STAPLES in the market people know the name know what they do....the other 3 are 3WZ, Froggy, and QWK Rock, I guess you could probably lump Joe in there now too.

Verdict? Good songs, bad songs. No personality. A stop on the cruising dial but not a home, and wham, commercials mean back to the buttons. Failing at being something, succeeding at being nothing, maybe will pull from WOWY or 3WZ. Maybe not. Jack formats need to open with a big splash. Don't feel the buzz.

There is a fine line between saying "we play anything" and being cool and causing trainwreck after trainwreck. This morning, I dialed in out of stupid curiousity to hear "Against the Wind" heading straight into Nelly's "Hot in Here". I like almost all kinds of music and it made me stop in my tracks and say things I cannot repeat here ;D. Seems to me that most of the persons who would like Bob Seeger would cringe at the sound of Nelly. if that's the magic in the mix, I fail to see how they will attract any type of long term listeners.

Seems to be the sizzle has already fizzled. Just wondering...how many books do you give the thing before it dies? Anyway my suggestion for next format flip. Move WRSC to the FM band and simulcast (or recreate Lite and do it right)

Saw a commercial the other day on TV for Magic 99.5...

They were putting artists on TV and then saying their names with it written on the screen as well, but the music was not following the artists in the pictures, they were a song behind...oh and the other thing...I listened pretty much most of the day Sunday and I did not hear one of those artists mentioned...Slogan should say...

MAGIC 99.5 WE PLAY ANYTHING AS LONG AS IT IS JACKSON BROWNE, MICHAEL JACKSON, OR SOME STRANGE RARE DISCO TRACK!!!!

Real Magic

Def Leppard to Barry White....yep heard it with my one good ear
