Albany Broadcasting Company seeks a full-time News Director to lead and manage the planning, production and presentation of news in an effective, timely and responsible manner.

[EDIT]

Others posted as well looking for "news associates"

thoughts?

The new Jingles sound good. Old ones were getting stale.... They have Alicia Gordon, Craig Dick and one other newscaster/reporter.

Albany has needed an all-news station for the longest time. There is more than enough news in Albany and the Capital Region to support such programming. When I say all-news, I mean all news. Whoever does it needs to take it a little further than WPTR did in the early 1990's. That was a decent effort, but it should have been taken a little further. I am sure costs prevented it from happening and eventually pulling the plug on it.

Interesting this is being tossed about. I was sure once Capital News 9 went on the radio, we would never see this happen.

Doubt we'll see all-news here in Albany. Too expensive to do it, and frankly, there isn't enough going on here to warrant it. Even CN9 is rolling recorded newscasts for a good chunk of the day. All that said, what is sorely missing is a decent local news department. WGY's is barely worth mentioning... 1300 certainly tries but again the budget is tight there, and 590 needs more than just the headlines, which from the looks of things is what they're trying to rectify.

Excuse me now while I go give Bob Green his pills. lol

If they do indeed flip 590 to News or News/Talk, what does this mean for Magic? Does it move back to FM (perhaps 104.9 or back to 100.9?) or go away completely? I'd miss it if Magic went away...

Let's say this DOES happen. My $$ is Magic will move to 100.9 and it'll be the end of Rock. I'm sure they will look at ratings first. They, imo, would not of have hired a new PD and a few new jocks...But that's IMO.

The same can be said of ALL radio stations except for the all news stations. The lack of a news department and local reporting is appalling. Often there is no real news department. There are just one or two people that read headlines with a little detail from the local paper. In the Poughkeepsie market the station groups get most their news from a local newspaper. Perhaps it is a little better in larger markets, but from what I hear, not much. Therefore, we are back to the way things were 70 years ago, getting local news from the paper. Increasingly newspaper web sites such as The Poughkeepsie Journal are charging for access, while the content of the paper has gotten thinner.

ok. well i am glad to see no-one is paying attention. They are looking for a news director because the old one resigned. Magic is not going anywhere. I have that from a very high source.
