Magic Drops Delilah

That's totaly f%$#ed up. I thought cheap channel would never give up such a show. I wonder why they did this and what other stations are dropping her.

What's even weirder is that it's a Premiere show, which is essentially a CC show. Normally these stations are forced to run these shows, just like all CC Top 40s run Seacrest, etc. The fact that they dropped it is just a very odd move.

Radio newb here-

Why would a station drop someone, if the obvious outcome of the move is less listeners?

They know full well there will be some irate fans and a backlash of people tuning out.

We can save X dollars by firing this person, yet lose money in the long run because no one is listening.

If it aint broke dont fix it. Right?

It's all about the money, and the radio monolopys don't care anymore. If it's cheaper to use one of their voice trackers in a particular market then pay for some other entity they will. In the short run WMGF won't lose any listeners once they go all Christmas later on this week. But after that we'll see. Also most of these stations don't even care what they run between 7:00PM - 6:00AM anymore. If they really want to save money they should just sign off and save the electricity. Hey, they could always bring back "Magic After Dark" and bring back the love poetry and cheesy instrumentals ;D

Here in Tallahassee ( I know this is Orlando Florida Board) @ Clear Channel Tallahassee former Magic 107.1 is now My 107.1 also dropped Delilah ealier this month as well. 107.1 used to be AC station utill Dec 26 of last year they went to Hot AC/Top40 with Elivis Duran In The Morining.

Interesting that sister station Lite Rock 99.3 (a magic clone) in Melbourne has kept Tesh and Deliliah ... I can't imagine $$$ is flooding in on the beach side of the state.

Curious, what's the cost to run these programs? Didn't know Delilah had the potty mouth.....nice to know. ;D

The CC AC here in Las Vegas (KSNE) dropped Delilah several months ago. I believe they were the first CC station to pull her. She did very well in the diary system but her ratings fell sharply with PPM. They replaced her with music and sweepers (no voicetracker, no jock at all) and I heard the night numbers went through the roof.

That's what's driving all these stations to drop Delilah, she doesn't do well with PPM which favors music intensive stations.

Tesh is no longer in middays, but the weekend version still airs Saturday nights from 9p-12a right after Casey Kasem.

Interesting note about PPM. Most businesses here in Citrus County that play 98.5 KTK (Which is a lot.) will switch the intercom off and change stations once Delilah is on. Usually to local Hot AC WXCV 95.3 or WOGK 93.7.

I can be shopping at the Dollar General at 6 PM and here WKTK on the enter-com. As soon as Delilah kicks on its on either WXOF (Classic Hits) or WXCV. Same goes for other stores and eating establishments.

Delilah most be a real killer for PPM.

WMGF appears to be going through a format adjustment from soft adult contemporary to more maintsream or possibly even leaning towards hot adult. This, in addition to the low ratings for John Tesh, would explain, at least partially, why Magic dropped Delilah. I haven't seen the ratings for WKTK during the weekday 7:00 pm to Midnight time slot, so I have no idea how well Delilah is performing on 98.5 FM. I would assume she is pulling at least "ok" numbers since she is still on the air in Gainesville / Ocala.

I am curious if you were living in Citrus County when WOW 104.3 was on the air? If so, and if you ever listened to WIFL-FM, what was your overall opinion of the format in comparison to local WXCV and regional WKTK?

I have listened to WIFL back when it was Wow 104.3. Loved it when it was Variety Hits playing 60's to today. Wasn't even bad as a AC. Better than what 95.3 was and still is. By the way weren't you the GM back in its Hot AC days.

As in the battle of the AC stations I'll take WKTK any-day. WXCV does not really have much variety in terms of AC. Almost all the music playing on the station is Re-currents. Unlike the Hot AC stations of yesteryear Citrus 95 doesn't really play anything not within the past 10 years. For the most part 95.3 doesn't even touch 80's and 90's music anymore. Maybe two or three songs a day instead of the traditional song or two an hour that a Hot AC is known for.  KTK at least tries to appeal to more listeners and play a wide variety of tunes. Even if the music is relatively lighter. WXCV is Hot AC but with a lean towards CHR. WKTK is mainstream AC. However with plenty of Classic Tunes.

In terms of Delilah she probably does very well in terms of listeners. However does not keep listeners in terms of PPM. I don't know the statistics. However if is an observation I made with local businesses playing radio. 98.5 is otherwise is king in terms of what local businesses in Citrus County play. Closest contenders will be WXCV, WOGK and WJQB.

As of Fall 2010, KTK was in a 4-way tie for #2 with Women 35+ during Delilah. Tied with WIND, SKY and MFQ.

OGK was #1 for the record.
