Magic on FM - could a translator be an option?

With all this talk about translators, it makes me wonder if it would be the best idea for Magic on FM (that is, if they don't blow up the Cat for it)... There's plenty of available translator frequencies (97.1, 95.1, 100.5, 106.9, 107.3 come to mind) :)

It would be great to have Magic back on FM but don't look for ABC to be blowing up the CAT and they don't seem to be interested in translators. Changes may happen but Cat will only get better. In other CAT news today their morning man is no longer with the company, they have a new PD, and as the story evolves the Cat will improve it's position.

Under the existing rules, they can't use any translator that doesn't already exist. Admittedly, that rule is likely to change in the not too distant future.

However, they'll also have to wait for the next filing window before they can apply for a new translator -- and that is NOT likely to happen anytime soon.

Translator is probably NOT an option. I would like to see it back on FM, but make it a true "soft music" station. Cut out the Frank, Dean, Connie etc. Keep the core artists like Elton John, Carpenters, Fleetwood Mac, Barry Manilow...etc. Doing this could give Pamal a true core listenership from 12-64 (when you combine the audience for FLY, B95 and this format for Magic). You could do a true voicetracked "standards" format on 590 then and keep the 65+ listeners happy. :) Just a few thoughts. I think Bob Ausfeld being in the position he is in now at Pamal, you might see some changes coming to this station. I'm sure he see's the potential.

The Cat is not going away, they're just tweaking around (the format, the jocks, etc.) so don't hold your breath for Magic on 104.9... Rock 100.9 is too new, but I'd picture them tweaking to Classic Rock before they simulcast Magic...
